What's the difference between
215/65 R16 H (102)
and
215/65 R16 H (98)
please? Not sure what the numbers in brackets refer to.

98 is 750kg/tyre, 102 is 850kg/tyre
Look on your VIN plate. There's four weights. The second pair are marked 1- and 2-. These are the front and rear axle maximum weights. If either of those is between 1500 and 1700kg, then you need the 102-rated.
If not, the 98-rated will probably give you a slightly better ride, because the sidewalls will be less stiff.

Thanks Mildly, current tyres are 98 but are budget tyres.
I was looking at these:
https://www.asdatyres.co.uk/michelin/primacy-3/215-65-16-102-h-xl-primacy-3
They claim good stopping distance, A rated for fuel efficiency and capable of high milage but are 102H.
£240 for 2 tyres fitted with £10 cashback via Michelin, the other options for Michelin were another £10-15 a tyre, we don't go far really but are in North Wales, fast roads with lots of bends, this tyre seemed to tick the right boxes but wasn't sure if 102 affected the actual size of tyres but it seems not.In the game of chess you can never let your adversary see your pieces0 -
The Primacy 3 is an excellent summer tyre with low wear. Good choice.

North Wales? I'd be getting some decent-brand all-seasons.

For a tenner each more than those Primacies, you've got 98-rated Mich CrossClimates, just about the best you can get.
Bit cheaper, the Uniroyals or Falkens.
For £95 each, I might be tempted by the Kumhos if budget's tight.

I looked there first but ASDA came out a little bit cheaper.MikeJXE said:
I saw the CrossClimates, the lower fuel efficiency and slightly higher price put me off a bit, happy to spend the right amount on decent tyres so not really on a budget, I think it will be a choice between the Primacy and CrossClimates.Mildly_Miffed said:North Wales? For me, the much greater grip in poor weather conditions would totally outweigh the very very small fuel difference.
