Do you mean the 'Start' button on the Windows taskbar?  If Windows needs reinstalling then you won't see that at this point.

Did you look at the article I shared?  Do you have the Novo button referred to?

Thanks for help There is no Windows taskbar.  
Yes we looked at the article you shared.  In order for that to be useful you need to have accessed the windows start bar which we can't do.  All we have is BIOS and boot menu

If you look at the back of the laptop, there will be a label with various numbers and codes.

goto the lenovo website and you should be able to make a usb drive containing a system restore image. Put this into a usb port, and follow the instructions on the lenovo website to restore the laptop.

alternatively, use a pc with a licensed copy of win 10 to create a win 10 installation usb stick. Put this in the laptop and install. when it asks for a serial number/ code click "I don't have one" and it will install, then because it had a valid code before. next time it connects to the interweb it will authorise itself.

If it is ex corporate, most likely it was windows 10 pro, so install this first.
