Migration from deemed export to actual export for solar generators with Smart meters.

Today I received an email from my FiT energy company advising me that within 6 months the 50% deemed export that I've been paid for over 7 years will be replaced with an export payment based on my actual exported energy measured by my Smart meter. This is a government dictate. So if you soak up energy into your battery / EV and still enjoy the 50% payment, that is going to change (fall) to match your actual export. If you export more than 50% of your generation, you'll get paid more.
What I am unsure about at present, is whether a solar installation owner can chose to remain on the 50% deemed export. I'll have to check my documents. This change can only occur if you have a Smart meter, so if this change wouldn't be advantageous to you, stay on a dumb meter.

Is this from Good Energy by any chance? Although I don’t see what the problem is with only paying people for the amount they actually export, I don’t think this is actually government dictate.

I would be happy to be shifted to measured export as a) I would quite like to know how much I actually send to the grid and b) I think I probable export more than 50%,

There is an earlier thread on this subject on one of the other boards.

Yes, Green Energy. The problem being that people entered into a FiT contract for 20 / 25 years. Alteration to that contract should be by consent. People bought solar diverts systems on the basis that they would be paid 50% of their generation, even if they used every kWhr. I remember my solar company clarifying that as it helped them sell solar diverts. Now my solar divert repaid itself a year or two ago and my 7.1 kWs solar installation has just paid for itself after just over 7 years, so I'm not too bothered about this change to be honest. It might even work to my advantage, i don't know, I haven't done the maths yet. What does irritate me is that I only agreed to a Smart meter to keep my E7 rates, as it was communicated that the radio teleswitch to control E7 was shutting down. This never happened and I've just ditched E7 in January anyway as the night percentage moved to 42%. Thus I should still be on a dumb meter...

Probably worth reading the original contract again as the deemed export payments have been predicated on the lack of accurate export metering for a long time now.
As soon as an accurate means of measuring the export was fitted (smart meter) the supplier has the right to change from deemed to metered.
The SMETS1 smart meters didn't trigger the change, but SMETS2 are certainly certified for measuring export, just that most suppliers don't enforce the change...

I was thinking the same, I have a first generation smart mete. But I too received the email from Good Energy

I wonder what would happen if you requested not to be placed on metered export?  The email being sent out implies that the change to metered export will be enforced but would that still be done against the wishes of the customer?

This is what it states in the EDF FIT contract:

The key fact here is that smart meters are Export Meters. I suspect that all FIT contracts have the same wording as this was a Government scheme.

SMETS1 meters also have the ability to measure exported energy.

Edit: From the SMETS1 Technical Specification:

I wonder how they will determine an opening meter reading in a fair manner?  I am paid for generation, and thence deemed export, every quarter but I'm encouraged to submit a reading a few weeks ahead of the end of the quarter.  That doesn't matter because the basis of the payment remains the same.  But it's not clear how one would transition from this to a metered export.

Did you mean Green energy? So far all reports are from Good energy.

That maybe what is states. But first generation smart metes are only readable by certain companies and go 'dumb' to other companies.

Good Energy were not on Ofgems list of companies that could read my first generation smart meter.
There were only eleven companies on the list, surely there are many more than eleven domestic energy companies?
