Evri

Hi, I was wondering if anyone could please help me. I am a seller on Depop and I sent the item via evri (I usually do through Royal Mail, however I couldn’t get to the post office that week). I paid for my parcel on Evri to be fully covered (item was ~£40), and Evri lost the parcel I sent their ‘live’ chat a message and they sent me an automatic link to fill in a form the link wouldn’t work on any device tried on a laptop and computer, contacted them again for another link they said that the previous link wouldn’t work but try this one and this email address was no longer available for replying to. So I contacted the online chat again, again they just sent an automated link and it never worked again. This just happened continuously. My buyer reported that the item had still not arrived so I tried to phone their phone line - the automated bot wouldn’t understand my tracking number I was on for about half a day trying to get through to a human. I finally got through to a person after the bot finally understood my tracking number and before they even said hi after I was waiting for 45 mins to get through to the caller they then hung up. I have been trying my tracking number again and the bot still doesn’t recognise the number - it’s a terrible service and I know it is made this way on purpose but I am just appalled I payed extra for insurance and full cover on my parcel now I cannot get any of my money back - please does anyone have any advice? I feel like I have tried everything I can’t get through to their phone assistance, their chat bot is automated and terrible, they have no social media to complain to and I have even emailed their CEO (not that I will think he will reply) but as a working woman, who is doing everything she can to get by right now I am appalled by this service. I know I will have to refund my buyer but I just do not want to be out of pocket in doing so - please can someone help. Depop will not assist as it was not done through them as they don’t insure over £20.

I'm afraid there's not really anything more you can do other than to keep trying the channels you're trying already.   You don't have any consumer rights protection here because you're acting in a business capacity, but even if you were a private individual qualifying as a consumer, your ultimate recourse would be the small claims court, but for a claim of £40 that isn't really viable.

Ultimately, you may have to write it off as a business loss - any business with significant mail-order throughput would expect a certain rate of lost or damaged goods, and it sounds as if you've been unlucky.

Why do you think they are a Business? Depop is a platform generally for selling second hand clothing and therefore very much like eBay.

I've no advice on getting through to Evri, but for next time you can book collections with Royal Mail, there is no need to go to the Post Office. Also cheaperto buy direct from Royal Mail for some services instead of via the Post Office.

"I am a seller on Depop" and reference to "usual" methods of sending sounded like a business activity to me, but granted I didn't look into Depop to see what it was all about.  I have sold the odd thing on eBay but wouldn't describe myself as a "seller".

If you sell then you are a 'seller' surely?

Being a seller is not the same as being a business though, it is perfectly possible to sell as a personal seller. My Ds's and DILs often buy and sell clothes they have worn, or buy something for a specific event and sell it on straight away rather than store t in their wardrobe to go out of date. It's only oldies like me that keep outfits for ever (and ever and ever) in case I ever want to wear them again .

By strict definition, yes of course.  I inferred from OP's text that it was more than that though, and was a regular activity and source of income.  As I went on to say, in practice I don't think it makes any difference anyway, because Evri aren't responding and court action for £40 seems silly.

    It depends on the context.

I wouldn't refer to myself as an eBay seller even though I've sold a few things on eBay.

I might say "I'm the seller" to clarify who I am in a transaction.

Generally people who refer to themselves as sellers on platforms are referring to being sellers in a commercial capacity, not a personal one.

Dont give up and you dont need insurance, they have paid out to plenty of people without insurance as consumer law and at least 3 county court judgements went against them
