Just to wish you all a Very Happy New Year in Financial / Tax terms!

I very much hope this new financial year is very fruitful in money making and saving for one and all! And especially, I hope you all enjoy your new £20,000 ISA allowance and are able to save and/or invest it prudently, sensibly, but also very successfully!

At work our financial year ended on 31st March so a few of us involved in the inner workings of the company have been wishing each other happy new financial year. Today I reminded some colleagues that it was the end of the personal tax year and they just told me I need to get a life.
@Alexland If it were me, I would simply have responded to that last, rather unnecessary and perhaps also a little unkind comment with a “Yeah, whatever” and a huge, Cheshire Cat like grin!

Some taxpayers in Scotland won't be celebrating as both the higher and top rates have gone up to 42% and 47% respectively.

New tax year, new shenanigans. This morning I've opened a Trading212 S&S Isa to take advantage of its offer of 1% cashback on deposits.

It's a good offer if you can drop £10-20k into the account for £100-200 cashback. I'm going to hold out until I can find someone that will give me at least £100 cashback on my S&S ISA this tax year for a token deposit of a grand or so. I'm a bit limited as most places would not consider me a new customer and am obviously avoiding friendly societies.

Got to work harder than last year to avoid higher rate tax.

I've got at least 8 years until I need to start worrying about having too much outside of ISAs (and paying tax on interest), along with the fact we have no 'new' money being added to the pot.

But it is something that I am conscious of, and so will be making use of some ISA allowance this year.
How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)
