Hi
Looking through the title register for my father's house as he wanted to make sure everything was ok/it was registered at the Land Registry correctly (we're currently playing hunt the original deeds, as my mother looked after most of the paperwork, but died in 2017 and the solicitors was shut down a couple of years ago).
There is an entry on it that we don't understand from 2018 that he's not heard anything about before.
Basically it says under section C (charges)
"2018-xx-xx Proprietor: BARCLAYS BANK UK PLC" (then the details of Barclays).
The property is listed as being owned by my father correctly but there is that entry, which is different to the previous entry which was "registered charge" from when he remortgaged.in the 90's, and he's not heard/known anything about this until now (I've dealt with his paperwork for years as his eyesight is bad).
The property is long since paid off (about 2005, he has the ).

At a guess, the mortgage (I presume that was with Barclays or one of their predecessors?) may have been paid off but nobody dealt with removing the charge. So that could be dealt with now.2

It appears in 2018 Barclays placed a charge against the property. You need to find out why, secured loan such as a mortgage are the obvious, but it may have been for another reason.
The charge document should be available from land registry.2 -

I don't think you need to get a copy of the charge itself in order to arrange for Barclays to discharge it.1 -
I gave Barclays a ring this morning, it seems to have been surprisingly easy to sort out, the advisor on the phone was able to track it down, see it was paid and has passed it on to the relevant team to update and close it out properly.
He's also located the deeds for the house and they'll be sent out as well.
Apparently it should all be done within the next couple of weeks and we should receive confirmation by post within 3 weeks.
Thanks for the help guys:)
I was honestly expecting this to be a real slog to deal with, but It took less than half an hour all in (it took longer for me to get organised for the call, and I didn't need most of the papers).2 -
It may take quite a while for the LR to be updated. It would probably be sensible to sign up to the free LR email alert service, so you get notified when there is "activity" on the property.

No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?1
