    Which brand?
Is it a shark fin cover?

Yes that’s exactly it - BMW.
So was the work done by BMW dealer, an independent BMW specialist or a local dealer ?

Under warranty or (presumably) paid for by yourself ?

What have the garage said about the damage when you've highlighted it to them ? You have raised it with them haven't you ?

... My argument is that I was never told the shark fin would be touched at all...
But if they'd told you that it needed to be removed would that have changed your decision to carry out the work?

Are they denying that they damaged it in removing it?

Would a reasonably competent and skilful technician have been expected to carry out the work without causing the damage?

I think the real crux of my issue is that I’m being expected to pay to replace a part of my car that 1. I wasn’t expecting to even be touched never mind damaged and 2. It wasn’t damaged when I left the car with them. Therefore, to my mind, if it’s been damaged in the process of them carrying out the initial repair job, that’s on them - not me 🤷🏽‍♀️ I didn’t break it 🤷🏽‍♀️

Try hitting Ok after entering post code. Which is what you have to do in a KIA.
Thanks, there’s no option to press ok in this system, it normally generates ‘hits’ on the second screen that appears and you can choose from a list.

But, sometimes, that's life when it comes to repair work.  The car was booked in for a fault to be diagnosed and rectified and that's what the garage have done.  The fact that fixing said fault wasn't done in the manner you think it should have been done in is neither here nor there.  Also, unfortunately, working on older cars quite often leads to things getting broken.
