Which brand?
Is it a shark fin cover?
Life in the slow lane1 -
To be honest, I’m not fussed where it’s housed - the garage described the job to me as a ‘total nightmare’ because in the past, the aerial cover used to be able to be popped off and accessed via that method, but not on modern cars. So the interior lining would need to come off. The roof antenna cover was never ever mentioned coming off to me. So when I come to collect it and realise it’s damaged that’s why I’m angry?MattMattMattUK said:
The GPS module probably is not in the roof, the antenna likely is. In general, the antenna will be in the cover on the roof, the cabling will run under the headliner and down a pillar and the GPS module will be somewhere behind the dash as part of the rest of the driver facing electronics.hieveryone said:
That’s not how it was described to me. The job was described to me as a nightmare due to the fact that this car brand weather tight seals the antenna cover and there is absolutely no access to the GPS module via this method.born_again said:Of course they will have to remove cover on roof to access the GPS antenna, as they are housed in there. Cabling will run under headlining.

Edited to add: the actual issue hasn’t even been 100% resolved either 🙈 as my sat nav still not functioning fully. Couldn’t write this stuff!

So was the work done by BMW dealer, an independent BMW specialist or a local dealer ?hieveryone said:

Under warranty or (presumably) paid for by yourself ?
What have the garage said about the damage when you've highlighted it to them ? You have raised it with them haven't you ?0 -

What have the garage said about the damage when you've highlighted it to them ? You have raised it with them haven't you ?When I raised it with them I was told that the shark fin was really difficult to get off as it had too much sealant on it, but that they had ordered me a replacement from BMW which would need painted. They gave me the costs if I wanted to take the replacement (£45+VAT for the fin and £30ish for painting and I’m assuming labour too).My argument is that I was never told the shark fin would be touched at all.The car originally went in because the GPS was not tracking correctly. It’s out of warranty so paid for out of pocket. Although the GPS is finding my position now, it is still not finding any postcodes in the ‘search’ option.

Try hitting Ok after entering post code. Which is what you have to do in a KIA.Life in the slow lane1
