Please move or delete if not allowed,
long story short moved into rented property (mum owns it) last sept been going smoothly but today had someone (work colleague of old tenant) who lives in my block of flats or flats other side ask if she had any mail,
The issue is old tenants work colleague asking for mail reviving it is not an issue
hopefully won’t happen again
but I would of thought they changed their address what should I do if happens again?

Whats the problem, receiving post for previous tenant or being asked?Just put all post back in the postbox marked "return to sender" and tell the friend not to call again.

The issue is work colleague of old tenants pressed flat buzzer & ask for mail…
receiving mail for old tenant not an issue at all0 -
What happens to mail which has arrived at their old address isn't your responsibility. So entirely up to you whether you bin it or hand it to a third party or insist on the old tenant turning up before you hand it over. I wouldn't worry about it.GTR_King said:The issue is work colleague of old tenants pressed flat buzzer & ask for mail…

Yeah
Not my problem next time will tell the lady to not turn up again etc

Good heavens! Why would you do that? It's very little trouble to store one or two letters, and it's pleasant to have a brief chat with a neighbour.GTR_King said:Yeah

Of course, you are within your rights, but a little kindness (and this is really very, very little) wouldn't go amiss. YMMV, apparently. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?1 -
Why should anyone be expected to store someone's mail and be disturbed unexpectedly by someone collecting it, when the previous tenant could have arranged redirection?1

The old tenant should have arranged redirection.
The best thing to do with any post for the old tenant is to simply write "moved away - return to sender" and pop it back in the post box.
This part confused me, though:
Why did this person suddenly knock for mail after 6 or 7 months?GTR_King said:

What have you done with any mail that arrived previously for the old tenant?1 -
It's easy to accidentally send something to the wrong address; I've done it before with Amazon items when I was in a rush and it for some reason defaulted back to an old address.
For me it would probably depend on the interaction - If the person knocked and said 'sorry to bother but...' then I'd be more open to putting bits on one side than if there was a general attitude of entitlement and irritation that I hadn't kept anything for them.
And the type of thing might matter as well. I'd be more likely to keep misdirected Christmas cards than statements or bills several months after moving in.I'm not an early bird or a night owl; I’m some form of permanently exhausted pigeon.2 -
I have always put RTS dose not live here on their mail in our post box at work (never came back) & been fine doing that as they don’t get much, they moved out in sept 22
it was a woman & a baby that pressed my buzzer (work colleague of old tenants that used to live their) so passed them the mail…
but don’t want to to keep helping
as not gonna keep their mail just to be collected1 -

It would just be an act of kindness.
