Ceridwen, have you seen the web page for the alternative Quaker Universalist Group?
http://www.universalistfriends.org/index.html
Thanks...checked out...and now bookmarked. I know those 3 introductory quotes well.0 -
I have spent all day sorting out my card making things at long last. I was very attached to it all but I bit the bullet and started in a small way ie to go down from 6 boxes to 5. Well I have done far more than that and have free`ed up two whole shelves. My dh helped me by packing all the crafting items in brown paper parcels ready for oxfam. There is a LOT of stuff and all in A1 condition so I reckon oxfam will get quite a bit of money. I know they get a lot of volunteers and they might even enjoy pricing bundles of items
I am on the downward slope now but am feeling jaded so had better leave the rest of the room until tomorrow. I have 3 small shelves and a desk full of accumulated paperwork. All good for the soul and only took me 3 years to get to do it0 -
...and sometimes we do know we "should" do things for literally years ...dont we all? Me included.
We get there...in the end.0 -
Well, I just logged in, and I'd just like to say again how kind you all are.
JenniO: I love the quote. And it's spot on. Thank you.
Mary43: You sound as if you're getting there. I've only started with my shoes. That's one small corner! But you've found such a lovely recipient for your candle making stuff that you must have felt a huge lift.
Ceridwen: You speak a lot of wise words. I'm just starting on my journey and I feel I'm moving forwards for the first time in many years. I finally feel I've begun to like who I am, and decluttering is certainly a part of that. I live by the mantra 'go into your discomfort zone' at the moment, because for so long I've been scared to do that. It's all very complicated, but I almost feel I was drawn into this thread - goodness knows how I found it as I've only looked at about 3 other threads on MSE so far. I'm going to dip in and carry on reading - I'm sure there are a lot more nuggets I can use. I'll let you know how I get on. But you have certainly set off something special here. :T
Kittie: You sound rather like I feel. Though I think it's taken me longer then 3 years! Good luck with it all.
Thanks, people. Hugs. x

Hello virtual friends:j
Absolutely no actual decluttering today but have been finishing off some bits. I've now finished reading the thrifty book and scribbling down tips from that I've been learning how to build a hay box for cooking...I'll probably never do it but I love knowing about these things. It's my old style curiousity coming to the fore again....I'm such a sticky beak:D OH and I have also spent the last 3 evenings watching the Tales from the Green Valley DVD as a friend reminded me about it and I only saw a couple of the episodes originally. Have absolutely loved it and it's been such a pleasure to watch a historical/archaelogical experiment carried out without all the usual tensions and arguments which programme makers think are essential to gain high viewing figures. There you go a simple approach. Anyway all my borrowings are going back to the library and I meanwhile have not added anything to my shelves. Result:j I am also quite pleased with myself because I have actually really enjoyed my treats this time by giving myself enough time to go through them properly. Previously I would have ordered 2-3 books from the library and then put myself under pressure to get through them all. I am learning even if old habits do die hard.
I've picked out a quote today which puts our place as humans in the universe in context as I think...apologies but haven't got a source for it.
"A star is....a sun, huge, bright, flaming with power.
And yet, to human eyes appearing so small.
What is a star? To some it is a light to guide their journey, to others a sign foretelling events on earth. Stars illuminate our darkeness, dazzle us with their beauty, show us that this world is not all there is.

This is what happened to me. I became ill, became severely depressed and unable to work, got into heavy financial problems and went bankrupt; life is so much simpler now - still have my bad days but getting there. It took me a long time to come to terms with the fact that my physical disabilities are never going to get better and I will never be able to go back to my old work which I absolutely loved - you know the saying, do what you love and you will never work a day in your life?
I decluttered everything else in my wardrobe but it was only a few weeks ago that I was able to give away my working suits and blouses.

Please stop using the word "of" when you actually mean "have" - it's damned annoying :mad:0 -
... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

We had to go to Ikea last night as one of the replacement kitchen door we bought was the wrong size!
The congestion charge is now down to Coulsden, so that was a shock. However, the stress of doing up the house and selling before retirement has got to me a bit and it is the first time I've been out to where there are lots of people since just after Christmas - very stressful, but I'm so glad I did it, I'm now looking forward to further trips out. We also got the new door - whew!
My son gave me some really cheering up news. He's had an article published in an Australian national newspaper. Here's the link http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/story/0,21985,23109751-5000117,00.html
This is the first thread I turn to every day - thanks everybody :T
Dh just phoned. You're sounding happy, I said. 'Yes, I've just given blood. I always go first thing because then my blood is rushed away to be used for that day's premature babies, it makes me feel good all day.' Ah, sweet.0
