Hi Rosieben, I will give that design a go. It is good to ring the changes. Had a lovely email this morning from DD, so feeling good.

I'm continuing the simplification by clearing out drawers. I've also found loads of jewellery I don't wear anymore. About two years ago my ears started to react to all earings. I have never been able to use nickel, but even gold caused the holes to bleed. I've loads of amber and silver from a previous business venture. I've looked on ebay but it doesn't seem to be selling, the same with watches and I have three I want to get rid of. I think I'll give the things to DD to give to her friends.

Got to phone the carpet people to arrange for them to come to fit. It's all seeming very real. :o

Ollibeak that’s a brilliant library service, so many things going on that we never really appreciate.

Tooties when I started decluttering last year I got so disheartened and even cried about it because I didn’t seem to be getting anywhere. Getting rid of some large items of furnture was the turning point for me. I still have one room that looks like a bomb site as I’m decluttering it though

Janeryan that’s a lovely idea to pass jewelry on like that. As for the broken jewelry – do you know anyone who does scrapbooking or craft work? I’ve used broken pieces of jewelry in several craft projects. The last one I did was an altered notebook which I gave a ribbon pagemark, I used odd ear rings on the end of the ribbon and it looked lovely.

Moanymoany be interested to hear how you get on with the pattern for the bag, it’s a great design isnt it

I'm trying to get up a little enthusiasm for decluttering this afternoon. I think I might hit the bookshelves again. Wish me luck peeps! :D

    Hi all.............

Tooties..............yes.....decluttering always gets worse before it gets better...well least when I do it...........lol But the end result is so satisfying when you can actually see the floor in my case !!

Janeryan.................super idea that. Intend to sift through my Dads bits and pieces and bit by bit give them to my sons as extra birthday/christmas pressies. I don't need to keep them all............they're only small items but stuffed in a box they dont get seen or appreciated. Hadn't thought of going through jewellry..........I've got stuff that was grans, old fashioned brooches etc. and a bracelet my Dad got for Mum in Italy during the war. In his 1943 diary that I've got he even mentions going out and buying it so I can put a tag on that to say date of purchase. Trouble is it's very coarsly made and Mum never wore it as it scratched her wrist so can't think that DIL or GD would make use of it.

Well, got off to good start today with spare room..............bags of stuff ready to be disposed of via charity shop so I can see the baskets I got for christmas pressies and the stuff I've got to put in them............don't know what I'd do if someone needed the spare bedroom though so hope no-one wants to come and stay for a bit...................lol
Birthday cards that needed making are done so I'm up to date with that (next step is to do some more so I'm ahead of the game!) Weekly letter to Mum done and posted, one lot of washing that was dry all put away, next lot in so after slowing down a bit I'm getting on track again.Cleared space on the windowsill for two pots of daffs OH got me yesterday to remind me spring won't be long..........:j
Still not done the bookcase in here though and our bedroom is getting a bit 'tiring ' to look at, if you know what I mean.
Discovered I've far more picture frames that I could ever use........no wall space for a start, so they'll be going to the spare room with the christmas/birthday pressies. Might even look through my water colours and see if there's any that will fit them just to make it more personal.
    So I'm getting there
Still to do: Kitchen cupboards (hate that job)
Our bedroom (not so bad to do.......can rout through old jewllry)
Bookcase (daren't touch that without OH's say so)
2 drawers in comp room...........put lot of stuff back and shouldnt
have last time I did them.

Thats it.................taking a break from it the rest of today cos think I've not done bad................well, for me anyway............:T

Have you noticed how miserable most people look when out at the retail parks 'shopping' ? most of them driving expensive cars, in nice clothes yet not a smile to be shared. It's a shame.

Yes, Rabbit, I have noticed this too, wherever people are shopping in large retail outlets, whether it be Tesco or a shopping centre/mall. It's as if they never quite manage to find the perfect item to buy to bring them happiness!

Working in a shopping mall myself i am astounded by the number of miserable !!!!!!s. Fair enough like, tramping round Debenhams isn't the best way to a sunny disposition. But i see these people every day!!!!!!!!!

Do they not have any other hobbies? Are they not aware that there are nicer places to go stetch their legs? Have they no imaginations? I asked one of these everyday shoppers how come he was there every day and he grinned and said "I'm retired now you know, i've got the time to do these things". And looked very pleased with himself for a moment before going off looking grumpy again. He almost looked sorry for me that i wasn't in the marvellous position of being retired my self, so I too could experience the joys of meandering around the same chain shops day after day after soulless day.

Working in a shop makes me hate people a bit.

Maybe instead of having a NSD (no spend day) per week we should have one SD (spend day) instead. Less stuff, less spending - simpler life.

Have to have quick 'moan' before tea's ready..............few years back, about seven I think, I painted a bit of plywood and stencilled it like tile pattern for the back wall where the oven stands. Well, OH says it looks bit worse for wear now (which it does I suppose) so I pop on to DIY forum to ask about cheap kitchen tiles (as ever, having to live on a low budget). Chap there put a link up for 'stick and go' tiles. Looked at it, read all the blurb, liked the colours and the price.............£50 would have done behind the cooker and along the worktop to a splashback at the sink. Simple I thought (going for the simplifying everything) then looked at the FAQ on the site one of which was 'could these be used near a hob or cooker'.............answer.........'no'.
So, now I''m peeved. OH has been cleaning (much needed) the kitchen out and is now set on doing something with tiles or something behind the over. Stainless steel out the question due to price...........don't feel like doing whole new piece of board with stencils -took me ages last time............so looks like we're going to have to trawl DIY shops looking for wretched tiles.........can't see any to choose on Focus Do it all site and thats our nearest one and OH is a right pain to shop with............... even worse if we can't find what he/we want. If I put it off it'll just never ever get done so I have to grab him while he's in the right frame of mind.
So thats my little moan.............sorry bout that.............just had to have a winge at someone.........................lol Feel much better for it:rotfl:
though it does look like there'll be two more grumpy shoppers around............lol

I've got 2 old fleeces ready for the charity shop that are now too small for my daughter, now I am wondering if I should keep them and turn them into something else... I made a hot water bottle cover out of one a few years back. Then again are they really clutter? I suppose I could keep them for a bit and see if I have any bright ideas.

I went shopping with my menu planned shopping list and stuck to it, I was amazed at how fast I got round the store. Normally I'm terrible for dawdling and mooching up and down. I am going to try and stick to this each week, it saved me money too as I only bought exactly the amounts I needed e.g 2 onions, not a big bagful.

I was thinking about doing the 'use up all the food you have before buying anything else" challenge that someone mentioned earlier on in the thread

Is anyone else doing it?
