there's no random TV on.
Thanks for this info. We have actually just bought a new set:o (old one completely knackered -screen all green -I know we should have got it repaired but, it would have been away 3 weeks and then it would probably cost £300 -making excuses now aren't I:o ? I'm going to reconsider getting rid of the aerial (my mum could always tape Dr Who).0 -

I'm "wearing it as long as I can" - my own little personal phrase from a tale of 2 men (whose names escape me) from hundreds of years ago, when it was commonplace for men to wear swords - one asked the other whether it was okay for him to keep wearing his sword, the reply was "Wear it as long thou canst". He wore it "for as long as he could" and then stopped wearing it. He wasnt ready to stop wearing it immediately.

. So far I've found out what a YURT is, decided to freecycle, grow my own veg and request from OP that she passes me one of her very favourite vegetarian dishes so that I may be inspired.
Here you are Fletch - one veggie recipe from OP - aka myself. This is one of my ones most likely to serve to non-veggies:
MEATLESS SPAGHETTI
1 large onion (chopped)
1 clove garlic (crushed)
a little oil
1 1/2 (ie one and a half) lbs finely chopped mixed vegetables, eg carrots, celery, mushroom, green peas, potatoes
1 standard size can tomatoes
1 Tabp washed split red lentils
2 tsps Italian mixed herbs
tiny bit black pepper
1pt vegetable stock
1 dsp honey
1 dsp tamari or yeast extract
salt to taste
12oz wholewheat spaghetti
2oz parmesan or grated Cheddar cheese
Fry onion and garlic in little oil till transparent. Add mix veg, lentils, herbs, pepper. Saute 10 minutes. Cover with 1pt stock and raise heat till liquid almost boiling. Stir in honey and the tamari or yeast extract thoroughly. Lower heat to gentle simmer. Add little salt. Simmer gently till vegetables tender and lentils mushy (25-30 mins).
(During the time this is doing:
a. Cook your spaghetti for the requisite 12 minutes
b. Make some garlic bread to accompany it.
c. Make some salad to accompany it.
d. Do salad dressing to accompany it (I just serve slices of fresh lemon to squeeze over it.
e. Grate the cheese to serve with it.
When sauce is ready pour it over the pasta, top with the cheese. Serve.
Enjoy!
Off for an early night now - with a good book to read (heh heh - its not a fiction one - who knows what ideas I might pick up from it!!:D ).0 -
hello all, did some decluttering in the garden today, been meaning to get out in the vegi patch for ages and today was such i nice day that i couldn't resist. Also went round the house picking things out to ebay and charity shop. Thanks for the interesting thoughts on the tv, i didn't have one for 4 years then me and my bloke bought a house and he already had a tv so we kept it. We now have sky as well but most of the time we watch dvd's or use it for radio, i can't get a signal through a normal aerial or freeview but sky works well, and i can't live without my Dr.Who!0

At the risk of making some of you go "Uuughhhh" ... I've spent the day re-using the fabric from some of my clothes to make these
http://www.downsizer.net/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=128
I bought some online a few months ago but have now decided to make my own (I got the pinking shears and the special fabric late last year but never got round to making them).
My next task is to make some reusable shopping bags from old clothesEnjoying an MSE OS life0 -

Feel so ashamed of myself..........everyones done so well today and I really havent...............maybe I need a checklist ?...........well if I'm honest I probably need more than that ! I've got all the ideas in my head of what to do but spending too much time thinking about them instead of doingMary
I'm creative -you can't expect me to be neat too !

One of the best tips I read on here was about picking 3 colours for your clothes so everything will go together. Most of us have a favourite colour that suits us so picking shades of that one, plus shades of another one then choosing a basic colour like black or brown to tie the colours together. eg: black, shades of lilac/purple and pale/dark green. It'll save time shopping too. Another tip, if you work in an office and are due to retire or leave for another type of job, STOP BUYING BLOUSES, one of the most useless garments, IMO." The greatest wealth is to live content with little."

Hi Applemint
I'd have no use for the items on downsizer, I'm 56 & waaaay past all that. I have however made some shopping bags from old clothes, I find skirt & trousere work best.
