I Ebayed 3 items of american food that will sell well and are normally imported at extortionate prices. Also binned 2 old bottles of squash that none of us liked and have been in cupboard for ages, a half bag of flour that had been opened for a while and OH has filled half a black bag with crap from under his side of the bed

I reckon you can "give yourself permission" to take things a bit slowly whilst feeling unwell! lol;)0 -
Although not new to the forums, I'm very new to this idea of "simplifying"....I just wanted to say that I've found this thread really inspirational.
I've never really thought enough about my lifestyle and it's impact on others/the world around me etc etc (naive, blinkered, and so on)...or at least, if I have, I've usually dismissed it fairly quickly and moved on.:o
I've found this thread really thought provoking.
Also, thanks Ceridwen for that link.....I've just finished watching it.....the thing that hit me the biggest was the marketing man talking about marketing to kids who said "anti-social behaviour in persuit of a product is a GOOD thing!"   . I can't tell you how horrified I am....(I think I need to go away and lie down in a darkened room).

Impressed by that comment!
WELL! - after all the comments about "thought-provoking" littered throughout this thread - perhaps I dont have to "slink off" feeling a bit down the next time I get a comment along the lines of "You think too much!".0 -
Keth, would be interesting to hear your progress with the garden journal.
I agree about blogs, I find so much inspiration on blogs – including yours – and I’m an addict! there’s just so much information out there and so much of it is thought provoking and often I read something which will make me stop and take a good look at issues in my own life.
A few years ago I designed an A4 garden journal which I can make available via 4Shared if anyone is interested. It has various sections, and could be printed out and bound or used in a ring binder. At the moment the covers are powerpoint files but I could change to something else if need be, the pages are in word I think.
rosie - inspired by your request, i've done a blog entry showing pictures of both the garden journal and the household journal. Its nothing too fancy, and the household journal needs revamping, but might give some people some ideas!!

Like some of you on here I decided to declutter my wardrobe yesterday as I have clothes in there that do not see the light of day and wear the same things all the time. As I have become frugal I did not want to buy anything new until I had sorted what was lurking in there. I got everything out and tried them on and discovered that I do get some qood quality clothes in the sales but but have ended up with nothing to match some items. Feeling depressed I was ready to give up when in walked my daughter. Tried everything on again and we put outfits together and she will come with me to buy items (one at a time) to make up other outfits. Deal is we will only shop for these and I should end up with a good wardrobe at last. Filled up a sack for charity shop with tee shirts, tops and bits and pieces I will never wear and daughter went off with two blouses and a new pair of shoes (in cupboard for two years). I found I was still shopping for office clothes even thought I left five years ago. Knowing where I went wrong has cheered me up.:T0

Well, I've seen this thread a couple of times, have been intrigued by the heading and thought..........."must have a read"........... and then I've noticed the sheer SIZE of the thread. I'm not one to dip in and out (too nosey in case I've missed something) so I'm making it my mission, right now, (well until someone decides I've been sitting too long and asks for something) to go and read this thread. If I'm not back in 2 days send someone to get me.....Grocery Challenge M: £450/£425.08 A: £400/£.May -£400/£361 June £380/£230 (pages 18 & 27 explain)0

They're great Keth, thanks for sharing. I'm going to pinch the idea of the velcro fastening if you dont mind. I have loads of black and even more of the white sticky-on velcro, so that would do the trick.
I have a household journal too, in A4 binder, still a work in progress as I keep trying different ways of recording things or thinking of yet more info I could keep. Thats my problem, I will make things more complicated than they need be... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

Hi Ceridwen, DH and I have just watched the 6 affluenza sections back to back. THANK YOU so much for finding this, it is fantastic.
I am amazed that after - it must be 2 years of frugality - we have completely changed so many of our attitudes. We are both excited because our local council is getting a machine to deal with tetra packs!
Once more, thank you. Your site finding is always worth a look, but this time you have excelled yourself. :A0 -
Phew!!
Now, believe it or not BUT, peppered with making pork chops DH and pizza DS, I've read the a total of THREE pages! I kid you not. I've been in and out of links all this time (personal favourite Hillbilly Housewife which teaches all manner of stuff like this).
This thread is a hive of information and inspiration. So far I've found out what a YURT is, decided to freecycle, grow my own veg and request from OP that she passes me one of her very favourite vegetarian dishes so that I may be inspired. My DS oftentimes when I'm giving him his tea asks the question "have you hidden any sprouts in this". I try to tell him that the sprout is not conducive with hiding:D . This does not deter me from trying to get him to love them as I do.

I believe you can do this, I remember reading about it on this board some time ago. I'm not sure how you go about it, but I think the TV licensing people have to come and check you can't recieve a signal.
We've just become sick of the rubbish that's on and the effect adverts have on the kids- especially dd aged 7. I don't know if we'll go ahead, I'm quite apprehensive I just keep thinking 'what do we do when the new series of Dr Who starts?' none of us want to miss that -maybe we could get someone to tape it...
we've done this - we cut thorugh our ariel and never got round to having it fixed. We wrote and explained and we got a refund on our license! we have DVD's and we use the TV license money for an amazon DVD rental that way we get to watch things like Dr Who - we're usually a season or so behind but that doesn't bother me.
We watch far less TV now and DS 9aged 2) only ever watches things I've approved as there's no random TV on.DEBT: £500 credit card £800 Bank overdraft
