Thanks for that Charis. Glad to hear it was a good day. Shame I couldnt be there.
That reminds me - must go off and bake that bread. Think you could say this is a "slow" day. I've really only done a bit of guerilla gardening so far - notalot of work today then.0 -
Charis - brilliant posting and what a lovely man he sounds. There's so much to be learned from people like him I'm sure.
I try to pace my days out in some kind of 'slow and easy' fashion but more often than not, just when I think I can relax, I get a phone call or something that means I have to suddenly switch on all cylinders !
But I'm learning to deal with those sort of situations better, particularly since my counselling sessions which helped me see things as they really are not what I think they are - things being people, situations etc.
We've always supported local shops - I'd hate for there to suddenly be none in a pretty little market town like ours. Havent been into town for about a year now.........haven't had the need as I''ve got everything in out little place. Might have paid a few pence more and our supermarkets are limited to just two and a half - I say half as one is so small, it's really just basics that are available.
Sadly we lost our little corner grocers shop a while back but still manage three butchers, two fruit and veg plus a market, that every so often becomes a 'farmers market' (though I do find them to be too expensive for me).
ceridwen - going to be another hot day so make it a relaxing one.........:oMary

Well, going to be another hot day -OH has been out to get the paper and says its a day for doing 'not a lot'................so I'm prioritising..........if its not an absolute 'must' then it can wait until another day.
Our oldest lad has only just woken up (I thought he'd already gone to work!) so he's got to go in late and make up some excuse.....this has happened too many times and I think he's on his last warning !
But no, I won't get 'ruffled' by it............I resolve to stay calm............and cool and endeavour to be a bit creative and make sons 40th birthday card - 4th attempt !!!Mary

Well - I took a quick peek at the blog - and was definitely left wondering. I looked at the other posts they have made and wondered even more......
It is an odd day on the Boards for spam today for some reason - must be the hot weather!! There was a firm spamming like mad across all the Boards in the early hours of this morning - with a lot of their posts "reported" by someone who looks an awful lot like a spammer to me - think they were doing a "double act". Goodness what that Yahoo and the Mafia post floating across the Boards right now is ......
Oh well....not a lot doing here chez ceridwen today - been at w**k as per usual - but think probably about all I'll do tonight is order a new fridge-freezer (darn it - my old one has definitely had it - it just sorta went on me all of a sudden). So I'm trying to think positive - the old one is 17 years old, so goodness knows how much fuel it was using. The new one will be A+ rating - and, at a more than rough total guesstimate, think it will cost me about £3 per month to run. Not checked my figures out on that yet...just very rough that was.
Right - off to do the washing-up too - another bowl for my collection out the back. I heard a rumble of thunder just now - the weather forecast earlier did say thunderstorms and drenching rain later today - here's hoping - as I've got a lotta containers out there in the back now - for extra topping-up of my waterbutt!:D Waste not, want not.0 -
ceridwen - there does seem to be not only a lot of 'spamming' but a lot of rudeness between posters..........why, heaven knows. Is it the heat I wonder ?
Well, according to our lad, (who eventually went to work around lunctime -so he says) he got send home mid-afternoon due to the heat !!! Now I know its been hot but wouldn't have thought it was any hotter than Friday..........but then Friday was pay day...................lol No problem with working in the heat then it seems. Oh well, not going to argue with him about it. He's had enough jobs by now to know what happens if you persistantly don't turn up .........OH has the feeling he's been sacked (he was on a final warning) so we'll see whether he goes tomorrow or not.
Young lad is on t-shirt number three so far today.......how do they manage to get them so dirty in the space of a couple of hours ??? Bet he comes back from the Youth Club with yet another one for the washing machine ! Little does he realise the cost of water/electric no matter how much its been explained to him.
Felt like we were due for a thunderstorm last night but it escaped us and we certainly could do with something to clear the air a bit. The bottom of the garden where the wild life area is has been quite a cool place to sit and its also our of earshot of the phone so it becomes OH's favourite place.
Having spent half the day struggling to create a birthday card for my son and surrounded myself with beatles/john lennon images, then my ink ran out - I've just checked my diary and I've got two weeks to go.................lol senior moment I think :rotfl:
Time to relax and get my brain in some sort of order methinks.................lolMary

I saw the comment from Catz on her blog re being hot and thought I think I will give a link to a post Crunchy Chicken put on her blog re coping with the heat:
http://crunchychicken.blogspot.com/2008/06/keepin-it-cool.html
Was reminded of it when I saw her latest entry yesterday - in which she reprised this - you might like to read this too - as there could be extra useful stuff in the comments section.
Its been pelting it down with rain here - mini life lessons time in Old Style Skills again - after putting out a variety of containers out back to collect rainwater (on top of what my waterbutt will be collecting) - hmmm....lotsa bits of dirt in the smaller containers....ooh...that must mean the rain has been coming down so hard that some of the water in those containers has splashed up from the ground (ie thats where the bits of dirt came from). Just put the shorter containers up on table and chairs! Still in "Old Style" kindergarten obviously I am.!;)
Right....must finish getting ready for another "joy-filled" day at w**k. They seem to have started playing "mind games" again - yet again, as its so darn frequent. I think I must know every single "trick in the book" that employers have by now to "persuade" staff to leave when they have more than they want. Sometimes it starts feeling a bit "personal". We're into "personal" mindgames territory again. Hey-ho - sing me the old, old story:whistle:    - you hum it, I'll play it...0 -
ceridwen - thanks for the link. Some interesting stuff on there ...........ooops ! seems I'm doing all the wrong things as I fling open the windows in the morning, make a cup of coffee (first of several), and thats just a couple !! Well worth the read.
Hope things go better at work........maybe the heats getting to the bosses - they're not such 'supermen/woman' as they think themselves to be.......lol
Well, yet another day when the oldest boy has not gone to work..........today his reason was that his phone alarm didn't go off but despite out young lad waking him at half six (don't think that boy ever slleeps!) and me waking him at half seven, still no movement or response apart from the normal grunt !
When he did emerge at about half nine, no phone call to his boss and he went off round his mates so I'm wondering............has he actually got a job to go to any more ?
Well, now they're both out doing what kids do before the 'I'm bored' starts I've time for 'me'............washing is on the line and drying as fast as we speak.........just as well as young lad has just grabbed t-shirt number 2 today off the line to wear...........what's the betting when he comes back t-shirt number 2 will come off to be replaced by t-shirt number 3 !!!
OH is getting me some ink for the printer so hopefully this afternoon I can make some sort of headway on birthday card for sons 40th.
Builder was due today but now it'll be tomorrow but have to admit I'm thankful for that. OH is defrosting the fridge so water keeps dripping out onto the floor and builder in and out with unknown 'stuff' on his shoes........well who knows what sort of mixture I'd have ended up with.
So, I'm all set for another relaxing day.................(she says hopefully)Mary

Well, here goes..............another day of our lad not going to work having overslept (he said). I asked him to ring his boss and explain.......'no point' says he which is making me think that this little spate of employment has come to an end. Just can't get him to actually say it to me........now he''s gone off out to 'job hunt' he says..............young lad is off on a day trip with the Youth Club, much to older ones dismay............he forgets that a couple of years ago, when he was in the school age group he went on these trips out.
Builder has been but not finished........yet. Last coat of plaster on one wall in what was the 'building site ' room, now just needs to put plaster board on another part of the wall and I can run riot with the paint brush..........(I'd get our lad to do it but I let him loose on the stairs and landing -big mistake !!)
So, sometime next week I just might get that room totally done (at least as far as builder is concerned) then there's the outside of the house to paint and that will be that Seems to have gone on and on and on.............still, the price is right so I can't complain if we have to be 'fitted in'.
Mum seems to have woken up from her months of being asleep...........still not making a lot of sense though. I was thinking of going down to see her in the next couple of weeks but now with the builder doing a 'maybe next week' I''m not sure..........OH has been promised some work but thats also a 'maybe next week' so I don't know where I am
Anyway, thats the morning gone and so far I've done nothing except make cups of tea for the builder and attempt to talk to a teenager with 'attitude'................lol
Never mind..............tomorrow a new charity shop opens in town:TMary

Well...Mary..your lad wont be applying for a job as a decorator any time soon then!:D That builder is being a right "pain" isnt he by the sound of it - hope its soon sorted out for you.
Meanwhile - as you would put it "park your bum for some me time with O.H." for tonight methinks:D0 -
It is a nuisance the builder coming and going as he does but he's throwing in a lot of 'extras' in with the original quote he gave so I don't feel I can complain too much.
As for our lad...........well, he said he was going 'job hunting' -turned out to be a game of football with his mates...............young lad now back from a day trip to a pleasure beach (loads of roller coaster rides etc.)..........home half and hour now bored !!!!
One of our ex foster lads phoned up to let us know how he was getting on......he left last November much against my protest to the powers that be.......still after getting into a bit of bother he's come through ok and now has a couple of job offers. I do hope he takes one and sticks to it........maybe then he could phone and talk some sense into the lad we've got.
Spent a bit of 'quality time' out in the garden -solving the worlds problems as you do (oh how I wish............) but it really got far too hot even under the sunshade so I'm reserving me seat on the concrete we call our patio until after dinner I think.
(Methinks I'm spending far too much time doing nothing lately........blaming the heat -or is it my bone idleness kicking in ? Oh well, maybe a morning out tomorrow will get me going)Mary
