    Hi Aril

Good quote as ever from our resident "Quotes Specialist":D .

Very true - I do wish people would show a bit of "respect" for this Planet we are on and not just use it and abuse it willy-nilly:mad:

I've finally got my "patch" - ie the bit of nearby land I have taken over "stewarding" sorted to my satisfaction - all rubbish removed and lets hope it stays that way. There's been "comments" from a couple of the "culprits" living nearby who wanted to keep it as their personal "free skip" that the Council removes their rubbish from and doesnt charge them (nope - the rest of us Council taxpayers have been picking up their "skip hire" bill instead!!) - but I've stuck to my guns and we'll see.

Noticed I had had a little bit of help from someone else yesterday:T - as some rubbish I had put aside had mysteriously vanished. Good one - much better than it mysteriously appearing - which is more what has been happening there! Right - I'll now "spread my wings" onto the next teensy bit of land I have in mind for stewarding.

Aril - know what you mean about days out...........much as I enjoy a bit of 'charity shopping'......(the thrill of getting a bargain) my most pleasant times have been spent over at my disabled friends house just sitting in her kitchen or garden, chatting over a coffee and generally enjoying each others company.
Used to do that with my Mum when she was fit and well, particularly after Dad had gone and felt I got to know her much better during those few years. She used to come and stay with us for a week in the summer and we took her out 'sightseeing' (for want of a better word) to places right on our doorstep that we'd never bothered to go and see ourselves.
Beautiful words about our precious planet and a good reminder to look after what we've got.

ceridwen - well done for managing to keep your little bit of England as clear of rubbish as is possible in this 'throwaway and don't care' age we live in.
Keep it up. Sounds like you're doing a grand job.

Well, so far today I can tick off number one on my timetable of 'stuff to do'
Transport for contact for our lad is now sorted (I had to phone them again ! Twice !! -couldn't wait till after 11am)
Washing in the machine so hanging that out will be next
Then out will come the paste pot and paper to cover boxes and photo album
(once OH has finished reading the newspaper that he needs half the kitchen table for...............lol)
Both boys have gone out............oldest one says he has a stomach upset and thats why he's off work -methinks he''s enjoying the sun too much.....lol
He's too ill to go to work but not so bad that he can't go off out !
Just hope they don't turn up in the middle of my 'pasting and paper' project............!
Seems almost a shame to spend the day indoors when its so lovely outside but I'm not very good with the heat -makes my head ache so I'm better off leaving my 'sitting in the garden' till later when the suns gone down a bit.

 Paste and paper project now shelved until tomorrow ! Managed to cover one side of the photo album but when I did the back, the paper was too wet and tore to bits !!
Thats what comes of trying to save a pence (or pounds) and use my leftover wallpaper paste ! Still, I managed to salvage some torn pieces and stuck them on a card........so all was not lost. Just that now I've got to buy yet another sheet of paper.....................grrrr............

Never mind.............OH has bought me a bunch of lilies (cos they were cheap, he says...........takes all the romance out of it..............lol), boys back from their 'outing' and youngest one has now gone fishing.:o

well I never did manage to read all the pages of this thread, which is a shame really as I do find it very inspiring. Suppose I can always read back if I'm bored one day.

I haven't done too well simplifying wise lately but I've been away lots. I'm going to try to attack an area tomorrow.

I don't always like the summer, but lately have been really enjoying pottering around in the garden, just enjoying the fresh air and the peace. Such simple things really bring me peace.

Thanks to all who post here!

Hi all - my latest little update is that we plan to get a mint plant for the window... our basil one is not doing too well (yellowy leaves, not too much flavour, although it's growing well - any ideas?), but a parsley one has begun to thrive, so I thought a mint one would be nice and avoids buying more, as long as we don't pluck it to death. If anyone has any tips for these please let me know... we can only keep them on te kitchen window sill.

We have a patio at the back, is there anything really really really easy we can buy for there? I heard tomatoes were easy but is it too late...

shaz - very hot here and I don't do 'hot' either'................love the sound of your holiday. Were not having one this year. Oldest sons 40th birthday so we're giving him a bit extra to go to the Liverpool Beatles Weekend in August. We had a bit of a break in Liverpool ourselves.........not that we spent anything when we were there but the cost of petrol was enough ! So, anything else has been shelved for now anyway.

Eaglelearner - if you have a look on the Greenfingers board theres a lot of threads on there about what you can grow on a patio. We don't have much garden we can use for veg so we've got all ours in pots.......you're too late for runner beans and tomatos but you might be ok for some tubs of carrots (we're growing the litle dumpy ones) and we've got some chilli plants we're hoping we're not too late with.
Good luck...............growing anything can be a bit hit and miss with me but some of the Greenfingers folk are really good at it and its worth a look.

Haven't done much today...........too hot.......so sat and made some christmas cards so I get them done and ready by the end of august (thats my goal anyway). Young lad went fishing then came back all hot and bothered, seemed to think I could magic new trainers out of mid-air and had a bit of a 'huff' on when I couldn't..............lol H'es off to see his mum now for couple of hours so I can have some 'me' time.
Oldest lad has actually gone to work today -shock  Mind you, tis pay day...............lol
OH has a days work, hasn't yet been paid for work Tues & Wed but chap said he'd pop it in so I'm destined to stay put until he does............least it keeps me out of the sun.
Now, having listened to Martin on the radio I'd better sort out my electricty and gas bills and get them on a capped tariff...........all sounds rather scary.

Alls well that ends well...............OH now been paid for work earlier this week and for todays...........he's worn out so we've been sitting quietly in the garden enjoying cool of the evening.
Electric/gas supplier assures me that the tarriff I'm already on will be as cheap as being fixed, backed up by figures that I've noted down just to double check.
Young lad came back from Mums........huff over and done with, older lad back from work -bit huffy for a start but now both have gone out so we;re making the most of the peace.
OH watering the garden..........for some reason he always does his veg with the watering can -finds it theraputic  Beyond me. I've done the dead heading in lady like fashion, trug in hand................lol :o
Now my backside needs a soft sofa to sit on. Somehow cushions on garden chairs aren't the same
