Greenshield - first off must second your 'thanks' to ceridwen for starting this thread off. What a genius of an idea and what a lot of thought its given us all about how to sort our lives out for the better.

As for the new lad teaching me a new hobby..........well, not so sure, unless I suddenly got interested in ps2 games and thats not likely............time will tell though.............I was taught to play card games by one lad a few years back (mind you, long since forgotten how)

OH really pleased with tonights dinner........we had tandori lamb yesterday with roast pots carrots and cabbage.
Tonight was a repeat of the same..........used up the remainder of the tandori lamb, carrots kept from yesterdays leftovers (new lad only eats carrots) and me and OH had the cabbage................cost - 73p the lot !
(Don't like to think of the cost of it yesterday though when it was all freshly done................lol)

Hi all, simplyfing fo me means getting rid of clutter. its so liberating!

  • hi Mary, just lurking but couldn't resist...foster parents for around 11 yrs now...30+ kids later and the best tip I ever got from another foster carer. I have a list on the back of the kitchen door/ "things to do when bored" including super chores like, clean cellar steps, wipe front door and windowsills etc. etc. Now every time one of my little darlings does the "i'm bored" bit I simply say, "oh, that's lovely, which job would you like?" ..
and the label thing... buy one of them his labeled baseball cap for £12 and the other get an absolute pile of 2nd hand gear, including a PS game 2nd hand, amounting to the same total price, give them both their pile and watch the change in attitude!
my motto's "more than one way to skin a cat! "

love & best wishes Mary , even if you're off your head ( as I reckon all us foster parents are :-)

ceridwen -sorry you had a bad day yesterday - today can only be better.........can't it ? Hope so..............and I don't believe for a minute you were ever an 'also ran'...................:rotfl:

Greenshield - love the smilies..............where did you find them ?

zarazara -keep up the de-cluttering..........it's good for the soul:j

Hi jaqui............thanks for the tips.........tried the 'would you like to wash up?' last night........young lad ran upstairs pretty quick, something he needed to do..................lol
Well, today started out well (sunshine too and OH says its St.Swithins day !)
Got all my stuff out to cover shoe box for ex foster lads 'box of bits' for his birthday next week.........phone call from school -young lad had kicked off -furniture went everywhere ! So, he got sent home. Had to make numerous phone calls to get him a taxi (school is 12 miles away). In he comes looking glum...........seems our older lad (who'd told me last night he was staying at his mates and going straight to work from there) had phone young lad about 3am to ask him to unlock the door and let him in ! Older lad goes to work about 6.30am-7am - we had no idea he'd even been home ! Result - young lad very tired, didn't take much to set him off. He had a short sleep when he got back from school and has now gone for family contact. Words will be said to older lad tonight
So, my day has gone a bit 'pear shaped'..........hate it when that happens. So, shoe box still looks like a shoe box, paper put back in the drawer and its 'another day' project !
And to add to the three shoe boxes I now have olderst sons birthday pressie cluttering me up.................its his 40th and he spotted something in the music shop when he was up here...........Beatles.....sort of cartoon like figures........now just need to find let another box that it might fit in so I can post it too him. I'll be dreaming of boxes.............OH kindly donated two empty boxes he'd bought some lager in !!! All the de-cluttering I did in this little den of mine earlier this year has gone by the wayside and I'm starting to feel like I'm back to square one !!:wall:
Still, at least its not my own accumuated clutter as it was before.......it's all stuff that will eventualy be en route to somewhere/someone else !
    Ho hum............such is life.............:rotfl:

  • Hi everyone

Mary43 - I did a search for smilies on google and they came from this site http://talk.sheknows.com/misc.php?do=showsmilies

I don't use any smilie sites that want you to register or pay, and use my instincts on which sites look safe or not.

Ceridwen - hope you have had a better day today and things get resolved soon. Otherwise us Simplify Lifers will have to come round and help. Take care anyway.

Best wishes and have a good evening,
    Night,

Greenshield - thanks. I'll have a look at that when I can get my brain focused on something other than trying to explain to older lad that it just is not on to wake the younger lad up at some god forsaken hour because he decides to come home ! Response was a lot of 'reasons/excuses/apologies' followed by a promise (long awaited)of 'I'll bring the c**p out of my bedroom...........'That was half an hour ago................still waiting ! Expect he's having a 'mood'............one of those that teenage boys get, sometimes for no apparent reason..............lol He can 'moody' on.............I said my bit, firmly but without losing my temper so now job done.
Whole day wasn't helped by younger lad returning back from visit to mum with fishing tackle..............goes off to the river..........comes back in tears because some other boys had a go at him for being 'in care'...........kids can be so cruel at times. We've had it before with older ones but they cope with it a lot better. This lad ended up coming back in floods of tears. Still, we got him out of it and he's now gone off to the youth club a happier chap...........just hope it lasts............................

  • Hi Mary and everyone

I lurk more than I post on here coz I'm not really as good as the rest of you at simplifying but I'm learning a lot from you all.

Just felt the need to post as my heart strings were tugged about your foster lad, poor thing. What a bad day, stressed enough to do that at school then contact then try to end his day well and gets called by some ignorant probably charmed life kids who do not have a clue why he might have had to end up in 'care' I'm not excusing his behaviour at school but as you will already know its a well known fact kids 'play up' around contact time. Hope he is ok at the youth club, very brave of him to even go in my opinion. Well done you it must be a trying job at times.

Thanks KM - it is a very trying job at times and there have been moments when I've just about had enough then one of my ex foster girls or boys will pop round or phone and it jolts me into knowing why I do it in the first place.
Very rewarding (though have to say not always................lol)

Lurk no more...........no such thing as 'not being as good as us'.............lol
It's taken me a long time to learn how to 'simplyfy' (spelt that wrong I think) but I'm getting there with the help of the other good folk on here. Managed to de-clutter one room -only to fill it up again but thankfully not with the same kind of things......just stuff en route to elsewhere- but at least my head is clear as to what the important things in life really are.
So do pop in and let us know how you're getting on...........just might sput me on to some sort of motivation on the rest of the house............lol
