Hi everyone, just found this really good bit on the Voluntary Simplicity website which I thought worth sharing!
http://www.choosingvoluntarysimplicity.com/sensible-frugality/0 -
Fozz - thanks for the link. Looks to be an interesting site with loads to read............another one of those where I need to put the kettle on and settle down to absorb it.
Well, day didn't go according to plan (do they ever?) Builder was due to sort out ceilings in the lounge but had an 'emergency' job to see to -fair enough.....our ceilings aren't what you'd call 'urgent'..........our lad was at his brothers so I thought I'd got some 'me' time..............out came the water colours in an attempt to hand paint some forget me nots for my Dads tea tray. Practised on some paper...........sort of getting there..........haven't picked up my paints for four years, since Mum was taken illl so thinking to myself, this will take a bit of getting back into................knock on the door and our lad is back as he has a job interview........soc. worker took him and brought him back............much chatting for about an hour.............soc. worker leaves, our lad is in and out like a yo yo.........job still not certain so he's like a cat on hot bricks...........so much for painting ! So, I attempt to print off some history stuff for my Mums friend from the local history site........all goes welll.............run out of paper !!!
Oh dear................not a day for starting things you want to finish ! So, I wrote a couple of letters, one to one son, one to Mum then OH came in and cooked fish and chips.
So............that was my day...............maybe tomorrow I can finish what I started todayMary

So far so good today.............been painting Dad's tray.........supposed to be forget me nots but don't think anyone would recognise them........still, they're blue and its coming on ok...........so far.Just takes such a time as I'm using my water colours and have to wait for coats to dry. But I'm getting there and feel quite pleased with myself............and its a quiet weekend. Our lad has gone to his brothers so we get some time for us...well till tomorrow anyway.Mary

I spent yesterday in the garden - working - and have now planted lettuces, radishes, strawberries and onions. I've put them all into containers so I hope something grows. I feel this simplicity lark is ingrained in me now. Decluttering, home baking, growing stuff to eat, where will it end?" The greatest wealth is to live content with little."

oooh? I dont know Lilac Lady - but do go and have a look at my blog. All those useful links - goodness knows where it will all end!

Keep up the good work!
I'm about to plant out some food plants in containers this weekend. I'm mentally going round noting sources of wild food and trying odd bits and pieces. I'm planning on a bit of guerilla gardening. I'm planning on making a wider range of cosmetics and cleaning materials. I'm thinking of having a go at making my own paint..........
Now you gotta admit between me and weezl we give you a lot to think about.....heh!0 -
Wish I could get to grips with a bit more de-cluttering..........I've come to a stand still till the builders been and gone and by then grandson will be here for his birthday then we're at MIL's for hers so it'll be a while before I get started again.
Home baking I'm afraid has never been my sort of thing and OH is in charge of the veg growing not that we can grow much as its all in containers but he gets so much satisfaction from it.
I'm hoping the de-cluttering becomes a 'habit' or rather the prevention of having to do itMary

Hi
I've just started visiting boards again and over the last couple of weeks I have been reading this particular thread and loving it! It is particularly of interest to me as our home is in deparate need of decluttering!
I am currently up to page 87 and I've also built up a folder of useful liks to other sites and blogs which I plan to look though in more detail when I've managed to catch up with you !
Thanks again for such a useful and enjoyable read!0 -
Thanks for your post ceridwen. I've checked out your chez page - awesome. I've put it in my favourites so I can enjoy reading it when I've more time. When you retire, you seem to be busier than ever in a different and much more enjoyable way.
mary43 - your life seems sooooo busy. I think you do really well to mentor the foster family and keep trying to declutter etc.
INSO - I admire your folder organisation. Just a word of warning - decluttering becomes addictive!" The greatest wealth is to live content with little."

ceridwen - I can see you being so busy when you retire...........making paint, make up, cleaning stuff.............you'll be working from dawn till dusk............lol Mind you, make a big difference when you're doing something you actually want to do.
INOSO -At least you sound like you're getting an 'organised' start...........I didn't and got in a total muddle trying to do bits of various rooms and it didn';t work...........well not for me anyway. I was better off concentrating on one room at a time which was computer room/den........that done I need to move on to another but with the builder going from one room to another its just not possible till he's done and I can't concentrate on it.
Good luck..............I found it hard parting with some things but on the other hand I've got rid of loads things I don't miss at all..........in fact can hardly remember what they were,so they weren't that important to me.
lilac lady - I'm waiting for this 'addiction' to take hold...........now I'm at a standstill I fear it'll be a hard task to start again.Mary
