Open a new folder for each subject (there will be some which could go in more than one folder - it won't hurt to put the same link in each). I even have folders within folders, so, for example 'FINANCIAL' has ten subfolders, including internet banking, currency converter, bills, national lottery winners website (ever hopeful though I rarely buy tickets). If you are not quite sure which sub folder to put it in, just dump it in the main folder and you can click and drag it later. It takes some time to get the system sorted but it's easier to find favourite links in a hurry. Some, like online shops, I tend to just pop into Google anyway but if it's a less obvious page it can take a long time to retrace, so it is worth keeping a library of favourites.
If you are working with Internet Explorer, when you click the +* to 'Add to Favourites', the menu has a button to create a new folder alongside the 'Create in' box. Better still, if you have loads to file, click on the 'Add to Favourites' button, then 'Organise Favourites', where you can create all your main subject folders and drag and drop existing favourites straight in. Firefox works on a similar principle.
Your main subjects will be as individual as you are. I have: Blogs, Creative Writing, Digital Photography, Financial, MSE, Open Uni, Personal, Poetry, Quick Searches (contains Wikipedia, dictionaries, Bablefish etc), Shopping, Useful Information, Voluntary Sector. These are just the main folders and within them there are sub folders and sub sub folders. Sounds complicated but it's a bit like using the library. Or looking for something in a large supermarket. Find the right section and you are in the right area.
There are thousands of individual favourites now as I have been surfing since the Internet was a novelty and once had my own 'Home Educating' links website. I used to use this program:
http://www.aignes.com/deadlink.htm
to weed out the dead links but I haven't done so for ages.

By the way, if you do use the AM Deadlink program (it's extremely quick on broadband), if it says a link is a 404 (file not found), make sure it's not because you need a password to access the site.0

Hi WMF!
I enjoy buying cookery books as well but I found that I rarely used them so a few years ago I bought myself a nice notebook where I now collect receipes I find in magazines, on the internet etc. To make my own cookbook more interesting I sometimes put in pictures of the meals . This is the cookbook I now use the most and that way I also cleared out several drawers full of receipes, so the place is not so messy anymore.
Good luck with your simplifying plans.

oooh Becky I used to copy out recipes and HAD 2 old hard backed notebooks. One is gone, sadly devoured by our very well behaved almost-9 year old retriever. It is hard to remember she ever did anything bad! The 4 yr old is a diff kettle of fish though and I doubt she will ever stop chewing. We went out for a lovely pub lunch today and when we came back she had removed my 'prosperity' rock from my wealth corner!! I am sure some of you will know what I'm talking about. It's a feng shui thing and it's years since I implemented the wealth corner so thought I'd start again. She sharpened her teeth on it I think! Never mind, it's back in place.
Had a glass of wine with my fish and chips at the pub so now lethargic and not inclined to iron.
Off to Morrisons to buy their Terrys chocs - BOGOF - for my MIL and me for next Sunday!

Can anyone help me with this ? I'm struggling to find a Mothers Day verse to put in Mums card.I've done all the googling and none of the verses I've found seem to say what I want.
Mum is really very poorly and bed ridden and I don't want a verse that's too 'soppy' if you know what I mean, that wouldnt be my Mum at all.
Doesn't have to be a long verse..........just a reasonable size quote might do it. Something along the lines of reminising about the things we did together that made us laugh. It's a hard one with her being how she is.
If you can point me in the right direction Id be gratefulMary

This day will always be filled
With sweet memories.....
That's why on Mother's Day
It's only natural to send you
This greeting filled with lots of love
And heartfelt wishes
For a very special day.

I find myself wondering...
Did I give you your due..
For all that you've done for me
Did I ever thank you?
For all of my childhood memories
For all those pretty dresses
For helping me accept my defeats
And celebrate my successes?
Or for teaching me the value of hard work,
Good judgement, courage, and being true
The laughter, smiles, and quiet times we've shared
Did I ever thank you?
If I have forgotten, I'm thanking you now
You taught me right from wrong....
I hope you know how much you're loved and appreciated
I hope you, instinctively, knew it all along.
Happy Mothers' Day

Mother's Day...
a time for warm thoughts
and fond memories,
for expressing
the feelings and words
that often go unspoken,
for letting
those special people
in our lives know
that they are loved
and appreciated -
always. We don't need to do it perfectly - good enough is exactly that GOOD ENOUGH.0
