when tidying up after Christmas and with the New Year coming, I always am full of intentions to 'start afresh'. This year a lot of stuff is not going back in the loft, its being Freecycled, recycled or thrown away!

the New Year is an excellent time to start, and our lives in particular are changing awesomely this next year, so simplifying has got to be done - and it will!

thanks for all your inspiring posts everyone

They are called 'toxic friends' and they will drain the lifeblood out of you. I don't have a lot of friends, but I'm afraid I've had to let a few go in my time as their life was like a self-made soap opera that I simply didn't have the strength to cope with. Good luck to you in the new year!

Of course I am not heartless ,but sometimes friendships have sell by dates too especially if they make you feel sad , but I guess some do have to slip away for whatever reasons . I think you always know who your good friends are and you have to be one too.

Sometimes though, it's hard to let go of a friendship, even if you know it's past it's best. Then worrying over what a 'friend' has or hasn't done, is totally draining.

Do you have to let go of the friendship, or can you just back off and see where it leads?

I met someone who I thought was a friend, but then her behaviour over something with someone else totally shocked me, so I stepped back and now we are just polite to each other. Of course she totally justified her behaviour, but I couldn't, so stepping back from it was the right thing to do.

I am also planning on making many changes, and the New Year seems the ideal time to do so. We need to simplify our lives - I need to learn to relax more and not worry about everyone else's problems, because they are draining.

I'm planning on decluttering everywhere, and what I cant sell can freecycle or go to charity.

Many thanks for the replys hester, jennio & pipkin some good comments . I think this friendship is one I will have to let slip by as it is rather draining consistently and the whole party incidence I just felt like I had to worry about her the whole time as she does and would take offence if i didnt do this or that and I cant be doing with it the whole time . Stepping back is good but to be honest this particular friend seems to fall out with a lot of people , or take offence all too easily in situations or read meanings into things.
is anyone else NOT going to the sales ?!!. I definaetely agree with relaxing more !.

Sales? Oh - is there sales going on? Gee...I knew something was happening today - but couldnt remember what:rotfl: The only shops that tempt me that much are bookshops anyway...now THEY can be fatal! Just wondering how many books I have bought over the last year!:rotfl:

But - basically - I cant be bothered with shopping that much anyway - got the male attitude to that "Search and find/sorted - now lets go and do something interesting".
