Thankyou all. It means so much to have such support.

It must have done some good..........I started clearing through a lot of papers in my computer desk drawers............stuff I'd got about family tree that was duplicated............poem I wrote for my Dad and to my Dad, even though he's gone.............now they're all shredded ! Maybe I can start to lose bits of my Dad bit by bit. The bit I did made me feel better anyway.

Well done Mary. It might be helpful to write down some of the things she suggested while they are fresh in your mind. It's too easy to forget maybe 2 weeks down the line and end up frazzled with not taking time out for YOU. So...don't get too worn out with sorting and clearing stuff out, will you?
    Take care

Women are so good at feeling guilty. We multi task all the time, put others first and then wonder why we're stressed out. I hope Mary can make time for herself without the guilt. Sometimes I fleetingly envy selfish people but then I think I wouldn't like to have their nature so it's catch 22 for most of us.

I think we're born with a guilt complex.................lol Most women seem to feel it at some time or other............that and worrying, thats another thing I tend to do.
Common sense tells me its all daft and I should feel that way but then emotions sort of take over..............I will get there I know it..........just a matter of time, teaching myself to put 'me' first, ignore anything said by anyone else that makes me feel guilty (happens a lot since Mums been ill) and look at the positive things in my life...............and there are plenty if I sit and think about it.
And I'll write them down, keep them to hand to remind me in case I forget.

Hope you're ok mary. Sometimes the first assessment session can be the one that really throws you, more so than subsequent ones - just vocalising things in a concentrated way for the first time can bring everything flooding to the surface and leave you very emotional. And then you feel left adrift for 4 weeks while your next appointment is set up! But the initial turmoil is part of the healing process so good for you tackling things head on.

Keep an eye on your thread, Ceridwen! It's creeping up to it's 1,000th post :j .

Congratulations on starting something so popular

I confess to being more than a little surprised myself! Was thinking about it today at w**k and thought "it does seem to be somewhat changeable in nature over time - and doubtless will continue to be - but maybe people like it partly because we are all trying to be helpful and non-confrontational to each other - and there IS a place for something like this on MSE. It feels like at the moment we are "competing" (very much wrong word - but its the best one I can think of at moment) as to how nice and helpful we can be to each other. Well - if thats the case - perhaps we could do with more such "competitions".

(edit: just realised this is the post no 1010.OHHH! Well - is this where we "break out the champagne" or something - which, BTW, includes the fact that Mary has taken the first step on the "road" - as per Ellidee's quote about "the longest journey.........").

I'd hate to think there was a competition going on..........I'd prefer to think we're just being oursleves.
Now break open that champagne (I don't drink so help yourself to mine..........lol)

I've made a start parting with my Dad............feel better for it (never thought I ever would) and maybe, just maybe, it'll spur me on to clear some of the other debris thats been around too long ............and thats not just material things

Many many thanks to you all for being so kind x

    Hi mary43

...bad word usage, as I said - couldnt think of a better one...but I guess we can get the gist of what I am trying to say (if a bit inarticulately - well we all have our verbal "offdays").

Well...I do like a bit of champagne personally..

...and ..."being ourselves"....well...yes...seems this thread attracts nicer people...well I am not going to complain for one.

....but anyway, congrats mary on that first step. Maybe a little "treat" time for you tonight for taking that first step?....
