One thing I would say is that you sure treat your rent as a priority expense. With children especially you shouldn't risk the roof over your head. Your LL may be understanding but he'll privately be concerned about the missed payment.
Totally agree... this is the thing I'm most upset and annoyed about that I have potentially jeopardised the roof over all of our heads for my addiction  problems. I knew this was coming if I didn't stop... selfishly I kept going and going until I ended up in this situation.
I'd let him have your partner's half at least - it wasn't clear if you were planning to do that. It will take the edge off if he can get half up front.

Does your partner earn anything? The outgoings seem the full amount, but you talk about your partner's half of the rent. Also, are you not eligible for child benefit?

Yes she does, but only a small amount enough to cover her half of rent and the smaller bills like water and a few other things. She will be changing jobs over the coming months but is waiting for the go ahead, when this happens she will be earning double what she is now.

We do get benefits like tax credits etc  but that helps my partner pay her bits and give her a small amount of money for herself.

All these debts and problems are caused by me solely and are my own personal debts. She will help where she can but in all honesty it will barely move the dial so too speak. Its me who has too sort this out ultimately.

Ok. I appreciate that you want to take responsibility for this, but this attitude might jeopardise the roof over your head. I think you should consider the joint income and prioritise it towards the essential bills.

It's quite hard to read your SOA in its current format (did you select format for mse?), But there look to be things you could cut back on - you have an expensive phone contract if that's for less than three phones and satellite TV isn't an essential. Looking for areas to cut back will get you back on top more quickly.

I hear what your saying and your right in all fairness. Will have a chat with my partner about this tomorrow, in all honesty it won't change a lot in terms of what we have too pay back etc. Will look at this though and see what can be done.

Mobile phone contract I have defaulted on and haven't paid for around 3 months now... its just been passed too a debt collector too which I've just remembered! I'm in such a mess here 🙈 I don't need the phone as I have a work phone and god knows why I ever bothered taking out this other contract ad its barely been used. I basically used it too get a new model phone when things were good.... yes I am an idiot!

The TV package is grouped in with my broadband from Virgin Media. For some reason you get a better price when you have the TV package rather than just the broadband on its own. I think I'm only around half way through my contract, so not sure if it's going too be costly getting out of it vs just sticking with it for now whilst I try and sort myself out?

Yes I did press for MSE when I did the SOA. I am doing all this by phone so may be coming out not how it should be.

That's loads easier to read, thank you for sorting that.

Some things seem to have disappeared (maybe debts in your dmp?) and you've not added the amount you owe to friends that you said you'd missed off. I think it's worth adding these even if there's no outgoings currently related to them.

In terms of your broadband/TV contract, I think it's best to wait until it's out of contract before trying to find a better deal. Do you shop around and use price comparison websites for this, car insurance etc? If not, there are good guides on the main mse website.

When you talk through things with your partner, even if you don't decide to change how you are approaching it, you should make sure you have adequate allocations in each of the areas eg is it realistic that you have no medical costs and spend nothing on entertainment (or are these adequately covered by your partner's income).

NB £30 a month for haircuts is quite a lot for one person, but more reasonable for four people. As you've split the SOA between you, it's hard to know which situation it is, so if you decide to carry on with your current approach, perhaps if you re-do your SOA, add a note by each area that your partner covers noting that this is the case and what that amount is to get the most useful advice from the forum.

Yeah it seems too have missed some things off now 😕 il have too do again when I get 5 and repost!

Yeah I think il wait until contract is up and then find a better deal. Yes always use comparison sites and do my homework before signing up etc. Remarkable really how much wffort i put into stuff like this considering how bad I am with money!

30 for haircuts per month is for me and the kids, i go too the cheapest place i can find too. My partner does her hers every few months or so and pays for that herself.

I think I will redo SOA properly and fully as you have suggested with notes of anything partner pays etc. Then it gives a full and proper picture without all the confusion for you good people reading it and trying too get your head round it :)

Thanks for everything so far anyway, and il be back sometime tomorrow too too add the redone SOA

If 10, then asking the council to rework it over 12 just might give you some breathing space on paying until the end of the month while they sort the DD out. You could also check what dates they offer for DD payments on this - a lot offer several points in the month.

I'll pick up on this as it is for now - you've got great momentum going at the moment so let's strike while the iron is hot and see what savings there might be to be made.

I do absolutely get your concerns about needing to deal with the debt yourself, however, there is an exception to that and it is when the very roof over your head is threatened as other have said - this also includes the Council tax by the way - as that should also be considered an absolute priority to pay. I know you're going to hate to ask, but does your partner have any savings that might be able to be used to pay the rest of the rent and the CT?

Comments in bold above. I'll be honest - even without the DMP debts included, it looks to me like your DMP might need a reworking as things do appear to be tight. I think you need to keep it paused while you sort out your current issues, then probably ask for a recalculation of affordability alongside including the newer debts in the DMP, but I'll let those with more knowledge in that area confirm that would work!
