EasyJet delayed check in and missed flight

I booked a package holiday through EasyJet from Luton. I did online check in and arrived at the airport 2 hours before my flight to drop my hold bags off (as stated on their website) The airport was absolutely heaving and there was a long queue. Airport staff were taking people out of the queue for flights due to leave soon. It got to just before and hour for mine and I queried this with them as I was worried I was going to miss my flight. They said it wasn’t necessary he5 and they would call my flight soon, which they never did. I queried it again with an EasyJet employee and they sent me to the front of the queue, although I was nearly there anyway by this point. I printed my luggage labels off and handed my cases to another employee to put on the conveyor belt and he queried where I was flying to yet again. I immediately went through security and this again was very busy. It seemed like nowhere had the infrastructure to deal with the volume of passengers at that point! By time we got to our gate it had closed and we had missed our flight. We spoke to a supervisor at easyJet who was not interested and told us to ring up and complain, but basically it was our fault as we had not allowed 3 hours to check in - even though it says 2 on the website and my paperwork.
Has anyone else had this happen to them and have they been successful in obtaining a refund?

It seems unlikely that the airline would guarantee that if you turn up x hours before departure then you'd definitely make the flight, and since at least some of the delay would have been security, which is the airport's responsibility rather than the airline's, then that makes it even less likely that the airline would accept any liability. Did you go for the (chargeable) fast track security to try to get through in time?0
