If you don't pay for TV licence or pay over the deadline, will they charge you more?

Are fines, enforced?  It just seems like such a waste of money, wanna ditch it but do watch it from time to time.  Got a day to pay before dealine.  Will price go up if it goes over?

No, but it will likely get automatically backdated to 1st April if you decide to renew later on. If you do renew months down the line you need to ensure that the start date will be the start of the current month and not backdated to 1st April.

You can't be fined for TV Licence evasion unless/until you have been found guilty of the offence in a Court, and that requires evidence which is obtained when TVL staff visit people's homes.

As above, there aren't any late payment fees, as such, although Licences are backdated and in the case of monthly/weekly payments, the payment schedule will be adjusted to recoup missing payments.

Depending on your viewing habits, it's not that hard to do without a Licence.   You basically need to not watch or record TV broadcasts and not use BBC iPlayer to access BBC TV.   Instead, you can watch any commercial catch-up/on-demand content from any channel and any platform, including both free and subscription options.

Do I need to pull out the terrestial cable out from the back of the TV incase they come round?

In the incredibly unlikely event that they do come round, just don’t let them in.
Unless they have a search warrant from a magistrate. Which they won’t.

    *Ding Dong*
    You: Hello?
Them: Hi, I'm from TV Licensing....
    You: No thank you.
    *Close Door*
They are sales people, nothing more.

Absolutely agree with previous posters. TV "enforcement officers" are salesmen on commission with no legal powers. If one knocks, say "no thanks" and close the door. No engagement at all.

You don't have to, but for some people that kind of thing makes them feel more comfortable.   Also, if you live with other people, it can be useful to have a physical indication that there's no Licence.

As above though, it's definitely best not to lt them in.
  • I understand that there is a device that can be purchased to put a delay of a few seconds on to the analogue signal from a TV aerial - which allows you to watch TV virtually live but allieviates the need for a TV licence - because you are no longer watching "LIVE" TV.

Even if there were such a device, it wouldn't remove the need for a TV Licence.
