No, you are merely liable for any amount still owing, for up to 6 years. It's not up to you to chase the billing, that's the job of the administrators or whoever Symbio was SoLR'd to.
Not strictly true. They can not take legal action after six years (five in Scotland) to recover any debt, but if they are still supplying you, they can apply the debt to your account. So if you are in credit, they can use the balance against the debt.

Any language construct that forces such insanity in this case should be abandoned without regrets. –

Ditto, however my DD has now returned to what it was previous to the discount payments.

Right, understood - should I ask for a refund so there is less credit as there is currently more than a years credit in there haha? :D
That wouldn't help as they are allowed to reverse any refunds when they do eventually come to work out the billing...
Once you've paid money to them it remains theirs to use against your eventual bill and you cannot claim 'bill-shock' in respect of those amounts...

Well it finally came. An email with my first bill after over 2 years (Oct 21 to Dec 23).
I was a little shocked as it said my balance was zero so I rushed to the website to check. They estimated my reading on the 12th Dec (I submitted one on the 8th) so must have done the calculations then.
Checked my payments/transactions section & at the top was a lovely big credit with the heading:-
You received Back-Billing Protection credit 13 Dec 2023

Now, obviously in hindsight I wish I'd used more energy as it would have been free but that would have been far to risky for my liking. As it is I cut my use from c2600kw/h a year to only c1900kw/h due to the ridiculous increase in energy prices so that kept the amount I may have had to pay as low as possible but it was still a significant amount to me that has now been wiped off my slate :)

A nice result for me for a change & now I'll have an accurate spreadsheet going forward. ;)
