Toilet flush valve.

Hello,

Long story short...my ideal standard dual flush toilet was silently leaking down the back of the pan. Must of been alot as the water level dropped slightly opening the inlet to refill (all silently!) I remove the flush component and replaced the rubber seal. The leak is 100 times better but I still notice a couple of drips here and there.

Stupidly I can't remember which way the rubber seal was on and don't know if maybe I put the seal the wrong way round? I inserted with the extra screw bit face up and then clipped it in with the plastic connector. (Photo attached) or are these types of cheap push toilets prone to small leaks?

    Hi,

Yea thanks. It's definitely the correct way up so I wonder why it still "dribbles"

I'd guess it's about 1/2 - 1 (Instead of roughly 10-12 pints previously) over 8-10 hours it's dripping so not drastic but annoying.

Is the surface it seats against nice and clean?
Another thing you can try is to smear the seating face of the rubber with silicone grease (not sealant!).

Might give this a go. Is it safe to remove the flush connector with the water still on to clean it? I'm assuming the inlet will just run down the hole into the pan? It's a pain in the a*** getting to the isolation valve under the toilet

Can you secure the inlet float mechanism in the high position so no water flows into the cistern?
A man walked into a car showroom.
He said to the salesman, “My wife would like to talk to you about the Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
Salesman said, “We haven't got a Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
The man replied, “You have now mate".

So just an update. I've tried numerous times to remove and refit the new seal and even though the leak is pretty much gone there is occasional drip marks at the back of the pan. If I wipe this dry it stays dry for about 10 minutes then a small drip will appear. Sometimes it's abit longer (20 minutes)

I don't think this is enough to cause the cistern to refill between flushes as the water level in the tank doesn't appear to drop enough so it should be costing more money on the water bill.

It's more of an annoyance that after repositioning the seal, checking for debris and leaving it to see if it fits better over time that it still appears to let a tiny bit of water through randomly. Are these types of toilets just prone to this?

Tony, why don’t you just replace the whole valve?
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

Is it actually a leaking flush valve, or could it be a high water level ?
Some cisterns will drain excess water in to the pan rather than through a dedicated overflow pipe.

All modern cisterns drain into the pan. The change happened when many customers were on meters, so the water cos were less concerned about water being wasted.

However, I think it would be obvious that the water was going into the overflow on the top of the flush valve?
