i know this is completely off topic but as there are some m&s staff here could someone tell me why m&s have stopped giving credit notes on items without a receipt? i went to take back a necklace that was given to me which isnt my cup of tea and was basically told tough :(
is this a new thing as i've never had a problem getting credit voucher (til receipt credit :P) before.

thanks an sorry for hijacking lol

I have work for m&s this is wrong the policy is that if you do not have a receipt you are issued with a credit voucher for the most recent selling price no matter how the item was paid for. As long as the item is in a resaleable condition. So i think you have been sereved by someone who does not have the correct knowledge to be performing the returns process. If this was recently i would return to the store and ask to speak to a manager and if possible highlight to them which member of staff it was that gave you this incorrect information.

I Found the same prob i was told that i couldn't have anything back though if dont spend full amt forfeit the change i was really shocked.M&S are getting rather tight i think lately, its not right keeping our change, better idea with the credit couchers lowers teh amt and gives you a new receipt after each transaction if you dont spend it all

Terrible that they took your change and didn't offer you a gift card.

Just trying to think of the thinks in M&S which are less then £1 that can be bought with change on giftcards. Crisps & Newspapers are usually in the food selling stores.

its a sign of the times i am afraid they have cracked down on a lot of things i am afraid even how the staff are treated and there isnt the same loyalty anymore its all about figures and results
  • I took something back to M&S which I bought for OH before Christmas. I think I must have shredded the credit card receipt for the purchase, but I still had the gift receipt.
Anyway, I went to M&S this week to take the item back and because I didnt have the credit card receipt she couldnt credit my card! (Fair enough!! No complaints there!)
However, what she did give back to me was a Till Receipt with the credit on it... No card, no voucher nothing. The SA said that it was a 'Gift Credit Receipt'.

My complaint about this is that it looks like any other receipt that you get from them.... The chances of these being thrown away in error is huge!

  • I totally agree. Some time ago I threw away a gift receipt with about £40 as at first glance it looked just like a used till receipt.

A SA advised me to put it into one of the gift card envelopes that are at the front of the customer service desk to keep it safe. This is now what I do and so far no more disasters!!!
