I went today. Bought £6 of food & the woman gave me £4 cash change. She said they don't do gift vouchers anymore.

I didn't ask her what she meant.

:naughty::naughty::naughty: I was in Nottingham M & S last week and asked for gift vouchers, the girl behind the counter started to load onto gift cards, I stopped her and said I asked for gift vouchers.

she said "oh were not doing them anymore, I dont think we have any"

I asked her how long the cards were valid for and like the report last week they expire if you didnt use it after 24 months and as the report pointed out people do forget

their gift vouchers have no expiry, I asked her to look and surprise surprise she did have some gift vouchers in the till

    "Stop the gift card Scam"

Maybe the gift vouchers out of the till were ones that had been used to pay for a previous transaction. Paper gift vouchers are still available through saving schemes such as christmas clubs.
Unfortunately there are many christmas temps this time of year that should not be working in stores and do not have all relevant information for the customer, so if you had paper vouchers from the till then I would double check that they are valid, as the system may recognise them as already used.
  • I was in m and s yesterday and asked for a gift voucher. I was offered vouchers or cards, so they had both. However they we're at the til but on a stand opposit. I had to nip and fetch one before the next person in the queue pinched my place!
She put £20 on it for me but, unlike vouchers, there's nothing to show the recipient what's on it, so I left the reciept in the envelope.

The gift cards have a gift reciept that comes out of the till each time it is used to say how much is on the card.

    Hmmm very strange

My OH today received in the post his Christmas bonus of £100 of M&S gift vouchers in the form of 4 x £25 quid ones in a nice M&S card meant for gift vouchers so the company must have got them from somewhere lol.....

I think there must be over a couple of thousand employees of the company so they might have run out after the big order from them??? He He

Although I wouldnt have minded if he got either the card or the paper vouchers, im sure if it was the gift card I could have gone into M&S before making my purchases and asked for a balance?? A bit of a pain if there is a big queue I guess tho.

My OH got £20 M&S vouchers in the post yesterday, from his works social club.

Would have been nice to get £100 worth of them though. :D

I work in store too and I helped deliver some of the training to the staff on gift cards.

Now if you give a paper voucher to the cashier, you are supposed to get the change on a giftcard, it doesn't matter if it is 1p or £20, it should go on a giftcard.
Some stores do still have paper vouchers but others will only have the giftcards as they are not getting any more deliveries of paper vouchers.
The giftcard can be kept with no value if required by the customer, if not then they should be kept by the cashier and sent for recycling.

Hope this has cleared up any confusion.
  • Well done for not going without your change, some of the gift vouchers of certain stores specifically say on the back cash change is given below £1 and vouchers above, I don't what the M&S ones say on the back.

They do this at DP too. But looking on the bright side some shops don't even do that and you end up being shorted! Ok I'll name and shame - Premier Stores. I won a £10 voucher to spend there and I had so much trouble trying to get them to take it from that I didn't even bother asking about my change.

Well what idiot thought up that ridiculous policy?

Surely anyone can see that giving a giftcard with a penny on it is completely pointless. Why not just give any change under a pound back in money like they used to do? What a complete waste of plastic.
