Perhaps there is another person elsewhere thinking they caught covid from the person sitting a few inches away from them on that flight who was not wearing a mask.

But perhaps people weren't wearing their masks properly. we were told that masks do not stop minuscule virus particles, but the aim is to protect others. what if people were wearing their masks inside out?

The OP said people were not wearing masks at all.
this is how life is now - it’s official government policy.
the run of the mill masks were intended for when the virus was rife and a trade-off to be acceptable to the public.

my point was that if you strongly want to avoid covid then there are measures you can take. FFP2 FFP3 or even one of those very uncomfortable gas mask style ones do protect the wearer.
saying you can’t resist snacks for a few hours doesn’t gain a lot of sympathy.

the problem is the OP wants everyone else to take measures (without considering the serious consequences of that) but has demonstrated that they are willing to do zero themselves.
that kinda sums up a lot of the problem with our society

From my recent experience I'd say the incubation period is 3 days and the severe part of the illness lasted a week. I couldn't work for that time. I work from home but unfortunately I got ill away from home and was too ill to travel. I went back to work after 7 days but was noticeably fatigued for at least 2 weeks after that.

Hopefully I've got some immunity now.
  • It's become apparent that many people are happy to give you a deadly disease for the sake of their convenience, and legally there is nothing you can do about it.

Anything from mild discomfort to killing you is apparently completely fine and just something people casually do these days.

So, you have to protect yourself. FFP3 mask, properly fitted. UV lamps. Disinfectant. Avoid eating on the plane and at the airport if possible.
  • I endured 5 days of Covid misery early October after flying back from Malaga late August.
I reckon it was the flight where I picked up the virus, but can't be certain.
If we elect to fly in a sealed aluminium cylinder for several hours breathing the enclosed air within - that is our choice.
    Can't blame the airline.

What led you to believe that you had an incubation period of 5+ weeks when it's been no more than about ten days previously and has been shortening with each variant?

Apologies - it should have stated early September.

Latest info is that the incubation period can be anything from 2 to 14 days depending upon variant and lots of other factors.
I agree that it is fact of life now that there is a continued risk like most SARS virus types and it is a personal choice ( or just head in the sand mentality )  to participate in life mixing with others or try and live akin to a hermit....or blame everyone else when you catch it. I feel the latter when I think of those who go on holiday alreadt ill knowing they will likely affect others in the transportation stages.
Not a big difference between a ban on in flight nuts where someone has an allergy...and a ban on carrying covid passengers if there is a vulnerable person on board...is there?

Must comment though that being on a flight plus the preamble and the 'after amble' without eating or drinking can risk things far worse than covid ( for most of us) such as DVT so it is unreasonable to not partake. Stay hydrated at least!
