Incubation period is 2-14 days before you start displaying any symptoms so how can you be 95% sure it was on the plane? And assuming you went for less than 2 weeks how do you know if it was the way there or back? Or even before you went?

There was a big backlash in many countries about the need for tests because it added material cost to the average family's trip abroad. It similarly put people off travelling to countries with requirements... there can be no surprise that Cancun Airport recorded its busiest ever times during covid given Mexico had no entry requirements other than a questionnaire and a temp test.

You've always been exposed to the risk of catching something whilst travelling, Covid is just another one on the list now and not as bad as many others.

no way of knowing where you caught it ( even you say you are only 95% sure) and why are you forced to take time off work ?

Forced to take time off work because I haven't the strength to go back, unless that changes dramatically. Chronic fatigue and achiness. Also I wouldn't go back anyway for respect to other people...I wouldn't want them to catch it off me. Unlike others jumping on flights with no regard to the rest of the passengers.

So I'm done with flights now, but one option could be to buy 2 seats together.
waste of time. the air moves around.

youd be better off IMO buying a really good mask and not spending the entire flight snacking,
    OR
    finding a different holiday
    OR
factoring in that this is a risk and you might get ill

most of us are doing the third.

Have been searching old threads and can't find any on this subject. I assume I have no comeback for this, even 'though I will be forced to take at least a week off work which I didn't want to. Am I sure it was on the (Emirates) flight? Yes 95%. Steered clear of flights for the last 3 and a bit years because of covid, but took the plunge and got bitten. So annoying that I had avoided COVID up to now, and when eventually PAYING for the privilege of a flight I get it. Surely COVID tests should still be carried out?
How much Compo would you like?

In my opinion the airlines have a duty of care to their customers, you shouldn't go home after a trip feeling ill.
Ha, the number of times I've developed a cold or even once a nasty bout of flu,  within a week of taking a flight,  over many years before covid happened. Lots and lots.

You get  into this sealed metal tube filled with 400-500 people,  and sit close up with at least 40 of them around you - the odds of going down with a virus of some kind are pretty stacked up.

If you want certainty that you won't catch covid,  then self-isolate.  It's now in our lives just like the common cold.  The airlines will be following the guidance of the countries they fly between,  and will do no more,  if you try to seek recompense that's what they'll tell you.

It's nobody's fault you got covid,  it's life in the 2020's.
I try not to get too stressed out on the forum. I won't argue, i'll just leave a thread if you don't like what I say. :)

You are very unlucky if you are not well enough to work and for that I sympathise.

Wouldn't expect to get any. But I stand by the statement that the airlines aren't doing enough. In 30 years of flying I've never got a sniffle until now.

Thank you. It's really the illness that bothers me more than the loss of income.

Oddly enough the best precautions are in your hands and not the airlines.

I get a cold frequently when I go on flights and always have done.

Airlines are now doing more than pre-covid in terms of air filtration.
There are limits as to what is practical in a situation where you put yourself (in this instance out of choice) in close proximity with hundreds of other people without taking any precautions yourself.

You want more measures but there are millions of people and businesses who don't want restrictions.
Some of these people protested, some of them openly dis-obeyed but there were millions who quietly dis-obeyed (or tried to) and that goes all the way to the top and by that I mean the cabinet and prime minister.
The restrictions had a devastating effect on lives, health care, businesses, education and the economy so you have to look at this "in the round".
If you increase restrictions (and therefore prices) you will damage the economy as well as other people's well being and holidays.
    The governments policy is clear.

I fully believe in your right to hold and express an opinion, however I think you're in a very small minority on this.
The majority desperately want life to go back to normal for economic, social, mental health, physical health and social cohesion reasons.

If you don't like the way the country/world/government/airlines are then it's up to you to find a solution.
The simplest of them is to wear a very good mask for a few hours (this still won't be guaranteed).
Some people (elderly, vulnerable etc.) are not flying.
Most people are just taking the risk and putting up with the illness. So it's up to you to decide if your holiday is worth it.
You illness sounds worse than most if you can't work for a whole week.

Unlike others jumping on flights with no regard to the rest of the passengers.
How do you know you did not contract COVID a couple of days before the flight?

What regard did you have for your fellow passengers?

What regard are you expecting the fellow passengers to have for you and the rest of the passengers that you did not have for them?
