My rights on mobile phone purchase from Currys?

I have 11 in my draws. As by the time I come to change them, they are only worth a few £ & not worth the bother. Just keep them as back ups 🤣WhiskersTheWonderCat said:Where are you finding all of these old junk trade-ins? You had four of them to trade in within a few weeks? I agree 👍MattMattMattUK said:
They do not need to tell you, they need to provide you with the terms and conditions, either by publishing them with the offer (on the website) and/or displaying them in store depending on the method of purchase.Hurley said:
If you'd read the thread you'd know I've already asked Currys whether that's possible and they've not given an answer.Grumpy_chap said:Did the OP try just asking the sister to buy the last two phones?
If that works, the issue is resolved.
The OP seems to want to blame the store / staff when there is an easy potential solution.
You'd also be able to determine, if you can follow basic English, that IT IS their fault because they've not told me or anyone for that matter about this term. Hence why I've made this thread to ask for advice.
They did neither.0 -
You don't need to ask and wait for an answer.Hurley said:If you'd read the thread you'd know I've already asked Currys whether that's possible and they've not given an answer.
Just try it and see if it works. Whatever the outcome, you will have the answer.

You seem to be selective and accepting comments that support you but taking umbrage at any posts with which you disagree.
If you want good advice, forums only work with consideration of all views.
There is no need to berate people for not understanding English just because you don't like what was suggested. It is not the way to solicit help.0 -
I did need to ask at the time as like I pointed out (more than once) I only participated in the offer so that I could buy the phones/earphones. Without a guarantee that the vouchers would work for them (as per their terms by the way which state they can ONLY be used against the phone) they're not of any use to me so I had to act urgently to try and retrieve my phones. THAT'S why I needed to know. I've still not got an answer for that and still not received a refund.Grumpy_chap said:

I haven't berated anyone but you because of your snippy, misinformed comment 👍
Whilst I do appreciate their attempts, others haven't drawn attention to any relevant terms. Currys have not highlighted any restrictions on this product and yet have placed them. I want to know why that is ok for them to do. I'll reiterate again for the umpteenth time that I've no issue with adhering to their rules but I'm not a mind reader, they didn't tell me or anyone about them. It's not disagreeing with things I don't want to hear, it's disregarding irrelevant answers.

I want to know why that is ok for them to do.
Then ask Curry's to point out to you where that restriction is stated.2 -
The terms on the website say that where this specific rule applies then it will be shown on the product page and the OP is adamant that it is not so if that's true I would say that Curry's have not informed them of the T&Cs.Grumpy_chap said:

I think it's probably more complicated than that in reality though because Curry's probably have a line somewhere in the T&Cs that say they can cancel an order for any reason and I would also imagine that the trade-in and the phone purchase will be seen as two separate transactions and therefore the refusal to fulfil the phone order won't be seen as impacting on the trade-in. At least as far as Curry's is concerned they will probably insist they've fulfilled their requirements.
I've seen quite a few threads of this sort where people say 'i only bought the gift card to buy X and then I can't buy X' and I really don't know if that specific point has ever been brought to a court. It seems to me "right" that if Curry's offer a special trade in offer on a phone and you take advantage of that offer that they should then sell you the phone or reverse the trade-in but that doesn't mean that's what the law would decide that of course.
Equally if I was in Curry's shoes here I'd just sell them the two phones as agreed and be done with it. I don't really see what they are gaining by being this obstructive. No doubt they suspect the OP is buying to resell but honestly so what? People do that all the time.
As others have suggested though the quick way out of this is to order in someone else's name and use the vouchers. If the order goes through it's problem solved.1 -
I agree that they haven't explained the T&Cs properly to you if what you say is correct. However there's a couple of lines in the T&Cs that I think will cover them legally.Hurley said:

Sometimes we have to hold our hands up and admit we have made a mistake by unintentionally publishing inaccurate information on the site (e.g. the price, description or availability of a product you have ordered). In this instance we may have to cancel your order at any time, even if you have received your Order Confirmation email, and you will receive a full refund of any charges already paid"

In order words, if we don't want to sell you something then we won't and you can't make us.
So I think your best route forward is either to buy using a different account or to very nicely ask Curry's for some goodwill in this instance2 -

I find it bizarre companies can basically do what they want. If I wanted to use the vouchers on anything else they wouldn't let me because of their 'terms'. But when it comes to them they can change their terms as they see fit.
I've been reading up on people's recent experiences with their customer services on all manner of issues and it's wall to wall horror stories. With that in mind I think I might just have to take this on the chin for the sake of an easy life but just getting my gift card balance reinstated is proving a nightmare.0 -
Just wanted to say thanks for this.Hurley said:
Here is the product page. There is no mention of the purchase limit so how can they retroactively apply it?DullGreyGuy said:Can you provide a link to the promotion?
https://www.currys.co.uk/products/google-pixel-7-128-gb-obsidian-10243722.htmlI've been looking for a new smartphone (as a gift for someone). With the discount and the additional bonus, this is a great offer. Even managed to trade in a 20 year old phone I found at the back of one of my drawers.1 -
*edit* never mind, I’ve just seen the “model not listed” option.datz said:Hurley said:

What phone was that?! I’ve got loads of old iPhones but they’re not on the trade in list and they’re nowhere near 20 years old.0
