Santander debit cards

I notice now that Santander are allowing all of their current account customers to withdraw cash from their Atms in every country they operate fee free. Previously only select account customers could do this and other current account customers were limited to Spanish Banco Santander ATMs

Yes , bit of a game changer if you are going to Portugal as they pretty much have branches all over

What I also like about Santander debit cards in Santander ATM's (the newer ones) is you can use the card contactlessly to withdraw cash, no need to insert it in, so no chance of you loosing your card if an ATM decides to gobble it up0 -
I've not yet eccountered an ATM with this contactless option - presumably the PIN is still required to make a withdrawal ?

Yes it is, there is a contactless pad, they have them on the ATMs here in the UK. You tap the card on the contactless point then it will ask you for you pin

The ones I used last year in mainland Spain and the Canary Islands worked like the ones back home, you just get a different landing page saying welcome to Banco Santader in Spain and you get to choose the language0 -
Thanks, more useful intelligence. We don't have a Santander ATM locally, they closed the branch - and it was the more traditional hole in the wall where the card went into the slot for transactions.0
