Bulb Energy account stating I owe money after 5 months of it being closed

I closed my Bulb Energy account at the end of Oct 2022 (I was moving out of flat then), paid outstanding bill and got refund of credit I have left on the account.

Suddenly this week 23rd March 2023, Bulb Energy send me an email stating I owe them £66 for Energy Support they credited to my bulb account on the 2nd Nov 2022.
I've got an email back in Oct 2022 that account was closed and did't owe anything. But since trying to sort this out via email with Bulb the support person is insisting I owe them £66 they credited to my bulb account (not my bank account) on 2nd Nov, but I've stated my account was closed at the end of Oct 2022.

I've send an other message back explaining this situation via there website, as the support person on email was not backing down to the fact I had been credited £66 on my bulb account and I owed them that money.

How can after 5 month bulb suddenly request this money? which I don;t belive I owe.
I thought it was a scam to start with but all the links via the email all go back to the proper bulb website.
The original email I received on the 23rd March 2023, did have a link to pay the £66 which i clicked on and it clearly said my account had be closed I did't owe any money.
But I've since been talking to the support person from bulb on email and the link on original email now stating I owe them £66. Bulb today even issued another bill via email today 24th March 2023 stating I owe them £66 for the period of 1st of oct to 31st oct 2022 and adding in the Energy support payment paid into my bulb account on the 2/11/22.

What should I do about this? as the whole thing clearly seems wrong they are trying charge me for a Energy support payment they credited to my bulb account.

You need to establish what has actually happened, it might be worth submitting an SAR to them. I suspect that they paid the £66 from the government scheme to your account in some way, but as you were not in the premises you were not actually eligible. The rest of that process has likely got caught up in the Special Administration process.

If the debt is valid then it is payable, if it is not valid then it is not, five months had no bearing on that.

It would appear to make sense and you could potentially owe the £66 depending on what actually happened, eg. was the £66 paid to your bank account, was it deducted from your final bill, has it been processed in some other way etc.

Submit an SAR, review your final bill and the payments both in and out of your bank account. If they credit the payment in November then you were not entitled to it and will be required to repay, if they did not and that payment was not applied to your final bill or credited to your bank account then you need to dispute that with them.
  • So what are the rules on Final Billing:

It sounds like the issue is that Bulb has mistakenly paid you the November EBSS. And this happened after the final bill, so you just have got money from them thaat you were not supposed to get and they are asking it back.

Did you receive the £66 paid into your bank account.

Otherwise how would you like if somebody posts your full name into a public forum stating that you are a scammer?

Might not have had it back to his bank as a separate £67 but was it included in the calculations as a discount on the final bill?

When did you pay the final bill and receive the refund of your credit balance?

    Was that in November 2022?

It is possible that the £66 was credited to your account and included the refund you received.

If it was included in that refund then you were not entitled to it and it would need to be paid back.
  • No the credit was credited to my bulb account after it was closed in Nov 2022. I got paid a refund of £41 when account was closed at end of Oct 2022.
