Could I ask why there are grounds for appeal? If there’s a time limit and you overstay are you not running the risk of being fined?
Not in any way trying to be confrontational but interested to learn if there’s an underlying rule to the whole business of ‘time-limit’ parking as we’ve often found ourselves cutting short a shop purely to beat a camera/clock. Tends to be an issue when we’ve perhaps had a quick bite to eat and coffee before hitting the aisles in the local supermarket.
    Thank you

    Bottom line?

Overstaying due to shopping isn't a crime, and it is considered 'extortion'. Not only our word, but the Government and all-party MPs' word.  IT MUST END. And it will, very soon. Law change in 2024.

Do you know about the huge law change coming to private parking, and this Summer's Public Consultation to cap parking charges starting at £50/£25?

Some of us here on this forum haven't sat on our hands and accepted this treatment from rogue parking firms.  We've stood up, been counted (I've even been threatened and shouted at) and yes, we've been listened to by the Government.

We are heavily involved in the new Government Code of Practice (some of it is my work...!).

I still have their ear now.  It's no secret that I've been 'working' - unpaid - with the DLUHC and parking industry contributors, and of course some others on the 'good side', in dozens of virtual meetings since 2020 in order to get this right.

The new Code of Practice is only temporarily stalled (by the money-grabbers) and it's already discussed all over this forum.  And it will be discussed even more, when the DLUHC's final (at last, the final!) Consultation opens by the end of July!

PLEASE COME BACK AND JOIN US WHEN THE CONSULTATION OPENS.

No shoppers should be accepting this as if it's normal.  You shouldn't be cutting your shopping trip short to avoid a fake 'fine'.

Did you know in many shopping parks - certainly supermarkets - you can ask the Customer Service desk to add your numberplate to the 'white list' (to exempt it that day as if you were staff or a store visitor/contractor) if you need more time?

    For example:
    https://www.blunt4reigate.com/news/parking-morrisons-supermarket-reigate

    MP was informed by Morrisons:

"To help us make sure there are plenty of car parking spaces for our customers we do operate a 2-hour limit but we know sometimes 2 hours might not be enough time if our customers are doing a large shop or want to grab a bite to eat or if they simply need a little extra time.

With this in mind, should a customer find they do need more time to shop with us please let our colleagues know on the Customer Service Desk have their registration number and they will make sure you do not receive a charge."

    No worries.

Now your eyes have been opened to the new law coming in (temporarily withdrawn last year, due to legal challenges now almost addressed by the Government after a year of very hard work):

...I trust we can count on you to join us in July/August for the final Public Consultation to get all these welcome changes over the line?
