Hi how do I apply for half price car tax? Just been awarded standard mobility PIP . Can it be done at a post office ?

It's not free tax. 
It is 50% tax for standard mobility

Yes, you will need a Certificate of Entitlement

That doesn’t apply to 50% reduction. This only applies to those that have Enhanced mobility PIP or high rate mobility DLA. 

For 50% reduction you need to send all the correct documents and payment for 50% of the VED to DVLA. Full details here https://www.disabledmotoring.org/motoring/road-tax-50-reduction
It can’t be done at any post office.

hi , slightly different. We get free road tax for my Brother. the vehicle was scrapped on monday. I have rung pip who will send out a new certificate of entitlement to take to the post office to get the free tax on the new vehicle. do i have to cancel the free tax on old vehicle? how do i do this? We have only ever had it on the one we have scrapped. I have looked but cannot seem to find any instructions

No you will get a new V5C with the tax displayed as disabled. Now you have to get a new certificate when you get  a new viehcle. I have never had to cange the old tax. Your only have to look after your new car. and give the  V5C of your new car to post office who will send it to dvla.when you renew. As only one car can be used for free tax.

That should generate a refund on a normal car, but in this case should just cease the VED.

Was this scrapped due to insurance write off, or due to car reaching the end of it's life. As such you should have proof of scrappage from the scrap yard, as it is all done online.

You don't have an exemption certificate for standard mobility. This only applies when you have Enhanced mobility. It will be the PIP award letter that you need.

You don’t get a new V5C for 50% tax reduction.  Just found out you have to claim it every year.
