POP Telecom - any good ?

My contract is up with TalkTalk
looking for alternatives - I found POP Telecom
Just £24.99 including unlimted anytime calls
Seems too cheap
Anyone experienced them ?
Are they associated with any other supplier (like Now and Sky) ?

If I was half as smart as I think I am - I'd be twice as smart as I REALLY am.

  • Better late than never. I just joined Pop Telecom and so far, it's been awful, took 2 days to connect me, and customer service is always available but lacks knowledge. The deal I signed up for is the same as you have put in your message, I can't even get 18 Mbps. Oddly, when I do a speed test with speedtest.net it shows Talk Talk as my provider, weird stuff.

Pretty sure POP is Talktalk in different packaging.

I think the point is that Pop is using Talktalk Wholesale, so no the directors won't be the same by the underlying infrastructure is.

I took out a broadband contract with Pop telecom in 2024 which was advertised as having a price increase of CPI + 3.9% each April. This should have equated to a £1.24 monthly increase. They instead increased the price by £3.01 per month.

I phoned up twice to discuss this with their staff, and they blamed the government and said Ofcom had approved this increase. When I asked to speak to a manager they gave me an email address. I emailed them and they defended the increase. I therefore put in a complaint through the Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) scheme. Pop telecom then emailed me and agreed to reduce my monthly fee to the price that I'd calculated.

If they've done something like this to you as well, please don't think you have to just accept it. This is the Ofcom webpage regarding complaints about phone and internet providers and the two ADR schemes: https://www.ofcom.org.uk/phones-and-broadband/service-quality/adr-schemes

The ADR scheme for Pop telecom is the Communications and Internet Services Adjudication Scheme; https://www.cedr.com/consumer/cisas/overview/

  • I am nearing the end of a contract with Pop Telecom and I wish, wish, wish I had never signed up with them, so if you are reading this save yourself a lot of hassle, and DON’T!  I am posting here because this company will do everything they can to get you to part with your money, truly the opposite of moneysavingexpert. People who have experienced problems with this company need to post them on the monitoring page of Ofcom. If Ofcom get enough information about the same company, they will investigate them.

I was with POP Telecom for a period back when we were still on ADSL (so maybe a decade ago). They were unremarkable then, the service worked, the bills arrived and the Direct Debits were collected.
I can't speak for how they are today.
