I'm not sure of your location but i'm pretty sure it's still ilegal to incorporate solid fuel into a pressurezed system in the UK. I know it was a year ago anyway but not rea dup on the regs lately but i'm unaware of any changes.

The Dunsley Neutralizer or Esse Centralizer is for a vented system only.......valves are not allowed in a solid fuel system in the UK and pumps are only to be used on the central heating circuit. The primary circuit must gravity feed.

New systems have been developed foir linking to pressurized systems. this is basically where the solid fuel boiler has an extra two tappings......one has a pressurized cold water feed with a wax valve that only opens if the temp of the boiler exceeds a certain predetermined value and the other tapping is connected to a drain. If the boiler starts to boil (or gets close) the valve opens and dumps a load of cold water through the boiler to stop it boiling and blowing the system.

I'm sure you'd be able to install such a system but you'd have to request special consent from buidling control and possibly submit drawings to be examined so the system can be confirmed to be safe.

    Hi
We're just about to move into a new house with a an baxi back boiler and 1960s style gas fire. We're not yet sure how much space there is in the fireplace so any thoughts are currently very embyronic. However, I want to know if it's likely to be possible to replace the g rated back boiler with a a condensing back boiler, but with a wood or multifuel burning stove instead of a gas fire.

No. You can replace the back boiler with a condensing back boiler (you still have to provide a condensate drain pipe) from Baxi but it uses its own electric firefront - I think the controls for the boiler are integrated into the firefront too.
    Hi
Id like to keep the existing open system because it allows for the connection of solar thermal when we can afford it, and also we won't have to undergo as much replumbing as we would with installing a condensing combi boiler somewhere.
True, but you still need a condensate drain, and if you install a combi you gain the storage space currently occupied by the hot water cylinder. Also any new boiler will usually require you to replace the hot water cylinder to a Part L compliant one, as well as add TRVs to most radiators or other form of zoning.
    Hi
Is it possible to install a woodburning fire in front of a new gas back boiler?

Emphatically not. The flueing requirements are completely different for gas vs solid fuel.
