Could I get existing number ported over before activating sim?

Can you have your existing mobile number ported over to a new provider before activating the sim? I purchased a new sim contract with Lebara which may not arrive until Friday. Yet my current contract ends Friday and I’d rather not have to wait and use the new providers number for a few days untill my numbers ported.

As part of the PAC transfer you will need to give the number you want to transfer and the new temporary number. The latter will go back into the pool and the former will go onto the new SIM.PAC transfers happen the next working day, so if you put it in on Friday its not going to happen until Monday anyway. Your current number will not stop working on Friday either.1

As @Neil_Jones has said, your current number will not stop working, it will simply go onto the plan that is provided for when you have reached the end of your minimum term. The contract continues until either the operator or you give notice (or you supply a PAC) and you will then have service until the end of the notice period.0

You have nothing to port your number to until you receive your Lebara SIM and its phone number. Your current contract doesn't end Friday, only its minimum term does, and your number will not 'stop', it will continue working on the service of your current provider until that is terminated by using your PAC.

You can only initiate a port if you have a sim with a number to port to. So if you want to end your current contract you could port that number to a temporary sim such as a supermarket sim then port from there to your new sim next week. That would end your current contract but you would need to topup the temp sim to use for the next three or four days before porting out.0
