Is a healthy diet more expensive?

That's an interesting list. And sibling was probably following something similar but in a purist way, so only eating from the list of lowest carb veg. Which is basically all green. I do also wonder if you get all the vitamins and minerals you need if you cut out all the other things completely.jackieblack said:

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.5 -
I wonder that too, I haven’t been told that I’m deficient in anything but it’s all a question of balance and, if necessary, a multivitamin/mineral supplement isn’t going to raise my blood glucose.elsien said:

Everything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the endQuidquid Latine dictum sit altum videtur3 -
The most expensive part of my diet is meat and fish. I can happily not eat meat but I like it. I cook everything from scratch. Cooking is very much trial and error. DS who's 21 cooks from scratch too. Personally I find the cost of fruit and veg extortionate, it's cheaper to feed your children biscuits than give them an apple. A vegan and vegetarian diet isn't cheap. The vost of nuts and cheese is extortionate. As for cooking, DP is in the process of finishing our outdoor cooking station. We'll be cooking on a fire in future. Often if the log burner is on I'll stick a pot of something on top of it.6

That is useful @jackieblack I would not avoid any fruit or vegetable because of the carbs because they are all good, but if you have a considerably smaller portion the amount of carbohydrate is lower. I buy just a few loose carrots, and a couple of small parsnips a week, because they are cheaper per Kg that way and I don’t want half a kilo each of them. The wonky or budget range fruit and veg are usually small.
Half of a small banana or half of a small orange becomes a low carb portion, with plenty of vitamins and minerals. Lots of green veg provide the extra fibre. Cartons of fruit juice are as bad as sugary cola.
We don’t have potato every day, and have just a small portion, about the size of an egg. Chip shop portions are enough for a whole family! The “normal” pasta, rice, and pizza servings are far too much carbohydrate for one person.
I make a one slice sandwich, or we share a pack, one is plenty for a lunch.6 -

But we do also have to admit that not eating a healthy and varied diet, problems will crop up and show themselves as weight gain, lethargy , etc etc etc5 -
Now if everyone could agree on what a healthy and varied diet was, that would be a bit of a breakthrough...

I think there are a number of diets people pretty much agree are healthy and varied - trouble is they often are not what people want to eat, or can easily eat. Eg Okinawan. And indeed with changing farming practices, the nutrition of individual foods has changed over time.
But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,Had the whole of their cash in his care.

Ain't that the truth. Also - why do we allow manufacturers to make (and retailers to sell) 'food' that is demonstrably bad for us?-taff said:Now if everyone could agree on what a healthy and varied diet was, that would be a bit of a breakthrough...
