In the first one, A has priority over B. B can't enter the box junction unless the exit is clear, and the exit is in A's path.
In the 2nd one, B has priority over A. A has to cross into B's path.

In reality, people are terrible at driving so anything goes.
    1. What makes you think it's a box junction?

    2. Isn't B crossing A's path as well?

The yellow box, but I may be wrong because the lines are in the wrong orientation. Ignoring the yellow box then it depends if they have separate lanes because there's no clear priority.

No, B is already on the road by the time it gets to the junction with A.

OK, I’ve now spotted the yellow box, which is almost invisible on my iPad.  It would have been really helpful if the OP had shown us any other road markings.
BTW I can’t recall any yellow box like that a in real life, but I haven’t had time to check its legality.

Car B should have priority in both pictures. In the left hand picture car B has the green filter light which gives them the right of way over Car A. In the right hand picture Car B has a green light and is already on the road making the turn so Car A should give way.

But if in the right hand picture the top traffic light indicates that Car A also has a green light then Car A gets priority.

    Hi

The diagrams are bnot clear IE if one car was there before the other

Assuming they arrived at the junction at the same time, car 'A' has priority all day long for reasons that will be obvious to drivers that driver as per Highways rules.
    )
But the "Highway rules" say no-one has priority ...
    Where??

Car A has property as per my post.
As per my post, ever assume the other is aware of the rules or has the capacity to drive safely.

My philosophy in todays mad road users is keep out the way at all times
You've reminded me of a mantra my dad drilled into me when he was teaching me to drive (a loooooong time ago!) and one which I've drummed into my kids as well - "Always assume everyone else on the road is an idiot".  A bit harsh, perhaps, but it's not bad guidance to bear in mind :)

Car B should have priority in both pictures. In the left hand picture car B has the green filter light which gives them the right of way over Car A.
If that's the case - the lights are programmed wrong - A should not have a green light - or as suggested above a give way line.

Also seems odd if this is a junction with traffic lights but no road markings?
I need to think of something new here...

It does seem an odd layout with a filter green in one direction and not on the opposite side. Still, based on what we have to go on, I'd say:

In the first A has priority, given that if both lights go to green at the same time B has further to go so would be racing A to get ahead into the clear road space. Two cars racing for the same spot doesn't tend to end well. B should cede to A and any other vehicles behind A until B is sure that he / she is heading for an empty bit of road. If B misjudges his own or A's speed he can become trapped in the yellow box. The yellow box emphasises that, that if it's not clear don't go.

In the second B has priority, again assuming both lights go green together. In this instance B will pass A travelling in a straight line past the junction where A is waiting, so it's irrelevant whether B came from the indicated start point or along the straight road (moving L to R). B is driving past a junction on the left, so traffic there (A in this case) should cede.

Normally and depending on how wide the road is, a bit of non-verbal comms would solve the conundrum quite quickly. My experience in that type of scenario is that once one driver has dithered it's easier to make the decision for both sides either with a wave and / or a flash of the headlights using the widely accepted 'After You Claude' gesture in accompaniment.

If I was in either situation the one who has priority is NOT ME until I knew exactly what the other car was going to do

I wouldn't fancy being caught behind someone like that tbh, continually waiting for someone else to make the decision for them.

"Always assume everyone else on the road is an idiot"

A more reasonable assumption is that most people have a basic grasp of driving and the rules of the road and will do their best not to drive into other road users or any nearby street furniture. It avoids unnecessary delays and waiting around, and in 40+ years of driving around it's worked well enough from where I sit.
