  • Finally had confirmation that our application has been approved after nearly 20 weeks!
  • For anyone waiting on probate and in process of selling…some news - I complete this week after having my offer accepted in January then stuck in the probate no man’s land while the seller waited to be granted probate.

i was looking for something else but nothing came up so stuck it out

didn’t think this day would come…seller applied for probate end of October!

Congratulations @Singlemummy_2 - delighted that you got there in the end - the seller was lucky to have you.  As a recent Probate seller, we very luckily got ours through in about 7 weeks, before anyone was actually 'waiting' for it.  I wonder if the HMCTS have any comprehension of the impact they have on people's lives and how stress inducing the process can be.
  • I have sent an application for probate Feb 08 of 2023 and did it by paper and by myself. An only child and simple probate. At least I thought. I liked one of the comments which basically said to not bother the demoralised people at the probate office or they will put you to the back of the queue. Am I right in not pushing on? Thank you for this forum and yes money is being lost daily.

I make that 19 weeks @LizzyLen - so you'd be well within your rights to query it by now.  They say not to chase for 16 weeks - but you're past that now.

    Hi all!

Thought I would add a little timeline here too since I am currently waiting on Probate. (Solicitor appointed)

Paper application submitted to Newcastle May 3rd.

    Acknowledgement email - June 19th.

I am hoping for a fast turn around, but I guess we all are! Haha.

Out of curiosity, what was the reason for submitting a paper application rather than doing it online ?

I got a phone call from my brother earlier- the Grant of Probate is through!  It was granted 15/6/23, but took until yesterday for the solicitor to send it on.  It arrived today, complete with copies of the Grant.

We can now finish closing the accounts and selling the shares and house.
