So sorry to hear about your cat Sola. It's always heartbreaking having to have a pet put to sleep. At least they aren't suffering though and that is the main thing.

HAd her for 8 years & while I have 3 other cats they're all different & none is less of a loss than another. Hope you're OK & soon are able to remember with love the happy times you had...

Sorry for your loss Sola a nasty time of year to lose a pet (is there a good time tho?).

The day after Boxing Day I had to have my oldest cat, a female Tortie put to sleep. I have had here for 22 years and despite arthritic back legs and dicky kidneys she lived life to the full but a stroke during the night took her off her back legs and it was kinder to let her go peacefully. The staff were very kind and she dropped off peacefully in my arms and now has a 'special place' in the garden, along with all the other 'special garden places' my cats of yesteryear have.

Two days later I received a sympathy card from all the staff at the vets surgery, offering their kind thoughts on the loss of a faithful companion. It took me by surprise that they would bother to send cards out. Some may say it will secure my furture business but I was touched and it meant a great deal to me. In 30 years of having multiple cats own me! this is the first I have had to have put down and I have to say it was OK as far as sad things can be OK.

I know have a sole Torbie female (6years) and although I'm sure I will visit the rescue centre before Easter I'm not going to rush into it just yet.

Hugs to all who have lost or remember pets this Christmas

Mine was a female tortie as well (daft really but I said Hello when I was pottering in the garden today; I do miss her, she was such a dear little thing). I'm left with 3 blacks and 3 tabby-and-whites, 4 male, 2 female. I'm sure we'll be adopted by a stray soon.

So sorry to hear your sad news. I had to have my very elderly cat put, aged 24 years put to sleep in November, he also had cancer. It is a very hard thing to do, but it is the last act of love and kindness that you can carry out for a dear friend.

I found this little poem comforting:

    The years I've worn you,
    warm upon my shoulder,
    ended here...
    surprised to find us older.

    And there was nothing
    left to do today
    but hold you close
and help you on your way.

    Be still, my little cat.
    Be well, be free.
I know that you are somewhere near,
    and loving me.
