Having a nightmare with british gas

So this more than stressfull firstly i have to point out i am Autistic so bare that in mind with responses.
So i been struggling with a few bills and discovered i had £200 in cresit on my electric. So rung up and asked for a refund to help ease the burden but was going to keep a little of it in for the cold  rainy days. Anyway i was told the money would be 3-5 days 5 days arrived no money i was told this was due to a direct debit going out.and they would contact me a day after the direct Debit. At a set time that arrived and i give that person an hours grace. Got no anwser so rung back and  a guy he would sort it i rung again 5 days later and they told me the guy had reset the account.and needed resubmit the reading however as the reading was new i wouldnt get the amount promised. I filed an offical complaint someone rung again and said the monet would be in 3 days on thursday. Still no money i got an emaill asking for upti 10 days to reslove it. I now own £300 to family  due to trying to stop  bank charges the money was ment to help with.

Are you saying that you spent the money before it actually arrived in your account from BG? And have now been charged for being overdrawn? If so, you are not going to get BG to compensate you for that.
On what date did you first agree the refund with BG?
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

I suspect that you did not actually have £200 credit, but it just appeared that way due to where you were in the billing cycle, which is why they needed an up to date meter read. That meant they could generate a bill and give you an accurate position which was then that you did not have a credit.

I agree with Macman that if you spent the money in anticipation of receiving it, or receiving a certain amount and you incurred additional costs because of that you will not get compensation.

The key first action is to establish if you do in fact have any credit on your account. Now British Gas have generated a new bill, what is the position of the account? You also need to keep in mind that they will not refund all credit ok an account, they will only refund excess credit.
  • In your first post you say that after submitting a new reading you were no longer 'in credit' this will be why you have not got your refund.
Being on the spectrum can mean you only take in the first thing you are told....
BG are hopeless with customer service.
    I would move away.
    Old enough to know better...........

It was two weeks ago i had given the a reading prior  to the agreed (which was £300 in credit at the time) and this was the money promised to me.

So are you still in credit now? Are you still expecting a refund? Are you due a bill soon?

All other suppliers are the same price, because they are all only offering the EPG rates.

How much are you in credit by, what is your monthly Direct Debit and what is your estimated annual usage? Generally they will not refund a credit that is less than a month's usage, for some suppliers it is two months.
