Car insurance/undisclosed accident lodged on the database
Has anybody else had problems with their insurance company (mine were Go Skippy)
Last year I had a minor accident my fault and said so, when I came to renew my insurance I was told there were two at fault notices on the database and I had not correctly declared/disclosed the correct information, I was only actually aware of one accident. I was never contacted by any form communication, whether verbally or in any written form. the actual date of the alleged incident was within two days of the declared accident (Possibly double entry)
My question is can insurance companies settle an accident claim without contacting the policyholder so they can either accept/refute the alleged incident.
This resulted in my insurance company increasing my quote from £570-£1725 (Go Skippy)
Despite repeated requests to clarify the situation I have now resorted to asking for a final letter to which Go Skippy have to reply within eight weeks so I can proceed With lodging a formal complaint to the financial ombudsman.

Have had cases where a PH has appeared again around renewal time disputing the number of claims only to then say email's went into their spam folder and they assumed the letters were marketing materials (even though the letters envelope say important documents, not a circular on the front)
Firstly... what did your renewal notice say from your prior insurer? One or two incidents? If its two then speak to them about the second incident. If its one then you can have a word but not likely to help.
Secondly double check that your new insurers have gotten their information from CUE and if not, then which DB did they use. Then do a dSAR request to the relevant db (see https://www.mib.org.uk/managing-insurance-data/requesting-your-data for CUE)
It is possible that one party or the other has reported the wrong date on the same incident and so could appear as if there were two incidents.0 -
Response to DGG
Legally yes however insurers dont want to pay out claims they dont have to and so typically its only after a policyholder fails to respond to multiple communication attempts will they decide how to proceed without their policyholder's input.

As I work away from home and I have a relative who comes in and opens the mail, anything that needs urgent attention is scanned and sent to me.All emails regarding car insurances utility bills et cetera are all contained within the specific folders in Microsoft Outlook.

The renewal notice was with Go Skippy (a continuation from the previous year’s insurance) and the documentation in the accepted renewed policy stated two incidents/ accidents they then proceeded to cancel insurance for the sum of £93 but not actually acknowledging the circumstances for the cancellation they did offer to renew the policy for the sum of £1700 as opposed to the £535 originally quoted I have now obtained insurance from another for the sum of £650. The refund in the insurance policy managed to take over five weeks and again there was no explanation as to the breakdown of the refund received

Then do a dSAR request to the relevant db (see LINK REMOVED for CUE)I have tried to obtain the information from Go Skippy but the response I get is the underwriter has made the decision. I have recorded all phone conversations and also given them prior warnings that I am recording all conversations as during one of the conversations I was told that something fraudulent was going on with my account. I also tried to get confirmation that my insurance was fully comprehensive and valid during the cancellation notice period again no response was forthcoming
It is possible that one party or the other has reported the wrong date on the same incident and so could appear as if there were two incidents.
That was my first thought as the incidence/accidents were within two days, again I could not get any confirmation from Go Skippy that they were indeed one incident/accident duplicated. Response to m comment
If you had an accident regardless of how minor you are required to report it to your insurance
I am aware of the fact that you have to report any accident or incident despite how minor even if to say, you reversed into your own garden wall and damaged the car but got it repaired privately as not involve an insurance company this still has to be reported as according to the insurance companies it alters the risk parameters, read, alters the the risk parameters as an increase in your policy renewal quote as you are a higher risk of having an accident
I would just like to say thank you very much for your responses to my query0 -

Go Skippy are an insurance broker, whilst its not what you were asking them it may well be worth asking them for the contact details for the insurer/underwriter as they dont seem to have the information/dont understand what you are asking0
