It is almost certainly going to be more expensive than going through an amicable divorce in the country you are living in, but if you are going to remain living together as a couple in the UK it makes no sense why you would do this?

This would be a bad option as far as taxation is concerned, especially IHT, and a surviving ex-spouse may lose a spouses pension benefit. You would no longer be entitled to inherit through intestacy rules so new wills will be required and you should make new LPA as well.

I can’t think of a single reason why this would be a good idea, but I would love to know why you think this will work for you.

Are you both living permanently abroad?

What are you trying to achieve?

If you married outside the UK but the marriage was valid in the country where it took place, it's valid in the UK and you will need a divorce if you no longer wish to be married.

If either or both of you live in or are domiciled in the UK, you can get divorced here, the process i done using the court portal and doesn't require any physical attendance at court, although you may need to physically attend court if you cannot agree on a financial split.

If you are living in another country then you would need to look at wat the laws of that country are for getting divorced
    .

If you are still together then it wouldn't make sense to get divorced, you could however consider a post-nuptial agreement if you want to limit what financial claims you could make against each other in future.
