My 9 year old 17inch Asus i5 laptop has seen better days
The keys are all worn off and it is not capable of running windows 11
I upgraded it from 4Gb to 8Gb and replaced the 1Tb hdd with a 1Tb ssd, making it boot up in 10 secs
What can I replace it with?
It must be 17inches

If I was half as smart as I think I am - I'd be twice as smart as I REALLY am.

On youtube, type in cheap or best 17 inch laptops. Look at a few videos and they should give you some recommendations plus hopefully they should review the products.MouldyOldDough said:My 9 year old 17inch Asus i5 laptop has seen better days

What can I replace it with?
If it's only lasted 9 years, I'm sure you wouldn't consider another Asus, would you?

When I’ve got laptops to the 7 or 8 year mark it’s always been something like the hinges that have failed, so you must be gentle with yours to be retiring it on performance grounds. If you’re happy upgrading components you could buy ‘last year’s model’ in the knowledge that in a couple of years you’ll be spending what you’ve saved on upgrades and therefore future proofing it. Chips may be cheap then, there are still shortages right now.MouldyOldDough said:My 9 year old 17inch Asus i5 laptop has seen better days
