Boots ownbrand hayfever tablets

Boots are offering buy one get one free on loratadine tablets, in store, not on line. This is their ownbrand equivalent of clarityn, so 60 tablets for £8. A bargain!
This doesn't make them the markets cheapest though, branches of Savers and other small pharmacies often have generic equivalents that are even cheaper. However as a main stream UK chain doing this, its a way for everyone to get together.
I urge you to read Cheaper Medications and Prescriptions, most of the time we buy pharmaceuticals in this country, we are spending too much on packaging and sugar coating.

That's an excellent deal Martin.....for retail products.
I would urge anyone that has any health service contacts to ask if they can by non-branded versions of the tablets from the pharmacy. I buy 30 Claritin equivalents for £1.12, beat that!
Proves just how much the drug/retailers are making on these tablets!0 -
Yes. One of my colleagues at work was saying yesterday that he has his GP prescribe him for hayfever, that way he obtains 60 tablets for the cost of a prescriptionProves just how much the drug/retailers are making on these tablets! Thanks to all who post constructively.
Have an A1 day!0 -
Try this to save more money.
Go into your small local chemist and ask if you can buy Piriton loose. If they stock them you can buy a lot more for a lot less because there is no fancy packaging, boxes or adverts for them.
I have bought them this way for about 5 years following a tip-off from a fellow sniffler.0 -

Problem with Piriton is they tend to make you drowsy. If you need to take the tablets on a regular basis for, say, an unknown allergey then Loratadine based drugs will make your life a lot easier.
I get a pack of 30 Loratadine tablets for just over £4 from my local chemist.0 -

I've been shocked at the price of hayfever tablets in the past. I now get them on prescription and as I have an annual pre-payment certificate for other stuff I take, they're effectively free.0 -
deals from chemists are usually quite good, particularly if you don't suffer too badly & therefore it doesn't matter which kind you have. Boots also have Benadryl on 3for2 at the moment , so if they work for you, that might be a good deal - If you are a serious sufferer, I would always encourage people to take advantage of prescriptions though, particularly if you have a friendly doctor. Prescriptions will usually cover a "job lot", my latest presription has just cost me 1/3 of what I would have to pay if I bought them over the counter.0

Wow! Nice one Martin - just popped out to get some, but they are actually 7.39 a pack, so £7.39 for 60!
Got to be worth a go i guess.
Cheers

As a long standing hay fever sufferer I have found that generic loratadine & cetirizine dihydrochloride are both available in most bigger shops, Boots & Superdrug for 99p / pack of 7 - so £4.95 for 35! Most are made under by Galpharm (see Superdrug, Asda etc) and some places even have 3 for 2 offers on these.
The best money saving is to be had on standard pain killers generic Ibuprophen (200mg) tablet & caplets have just the same active ingedients as a number of major brand painkillers and can usually be purchased from the likes of Asda at about 35p for 16 - compare to over £1 for 8 of some major brands.
ALWAYS READ THE LABEL - ALWAYS COMPARE ACTIVE INGREDIENTS!0 -

As they say "see my previous post on this a couple of days ago <G>"British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -
Another chain which does their own brand 10mg Loratadine for 99p/7 permanently: Wilkinson's.
Boots is generally a rip-off. I don't see why it deserves free advertising on here!Time is an illusion - lunch time doubly so.0
