Delayed due to weather, but the weather was fine

Last week I was due to fly to London with BA. There are multiple flights spaced throughout the delay. I think they're at something like 6am, 9am, 2pm and 7pm. I was due to fly on the 9am, but the day before, I was told the flight had been cancelled and I've been automatically booked on the 7pm one. They didn't give a reason, but when I looked into it myself, the reason was bad weather.
There was a bit of snow through the night, but the 6am flight left on time, and there was no bad weather after that. I love close to the airport and the weather was fine. I've looked into it to find out if I can claim compensation, but I'm not sure. I've read that delays/cancellations due to bad weather aren't eligible, but if BA state that as the reason, can I dispute that?
Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Bad weather doesn't necessarily mean specifically at the point of departure, or arrival for that matter!
Cancellations are eligible for compensation unless "caused by extraordinary circumstances which could not have been avoided even if all reasonable measures had been taken", and pre-emptively choosing to cancel the day before wouldn't seem to allow such claims to be refused, so it sounds worth submitting one.1 -
Where were you flying from as it may have been the case that the plane should have flown to your departure airport the night before and the fact the flight was cancelled the night before suggests that was the case. There were certainly days with very high winds where Heathrow itself reduced the flow of planes forcing airlines to reduce the number of flights operating, and short haul flights are the first to be affected.0
