Oh dear - next time don't go for one that the EA suggests, they probably get commission.

Property will be leasehold and that can add to the costs, what sort of things have they quoted - there should be a full breakdown ie professional fees, searches, transfers, ID checks, etc etc
This is the breakdown of costs:
    Conveyancing fee949.00189.8020.00%
    Electronic Money Transfer Fee80.0016.0020.00%
Stamp Duty Land Tax Return Fee100.0020.0020.00%
    Electronic ID Check50.0010.0020.00%
    Preparation of Chancel Search Policy36.007.2020.00%
    Mortgage Admin Fee249.0049.8020.00%
    Leasehold Fee399.0079.8020.00%
    Notice of transfer35.007.0020.00%
    Notice of Charge 35.007.0020.00%
    Preparing compliance certificate 50.0010.0020.00%
    Retention 50.0010.0020.00%
    Source Of Funds 75.0015.0020.00%
    Indemnity Insurance 75.0015.0020.00%
Dealing with Licence to Assign 150.0030.0020.00%
    Deed of Variation 150.0030.0020.00%
    0.000.00
    Taxable Expenses
    Initial Searches 287.6757.5320.00%
    Final Searches7.001.4020.00%
    0.000.00
    0.000.00
    Non-Taxable Expenses
    0.00
    Total Charges and Expenses2777.67
    Total VAT555.53
    TOTAL AMOUNT due: 3333.20
Wouldn't be surprised if the initial quote said £2,000 excl Vat and searches, and excl Deed of Variation and similar. That’s your 2k ….

if not, why don't you provide the exact wording of the quote?
