Drop in Broadband Speeds on offer

Been searching for some new deals recently with broadband providers as I am considering moving from BT. I've been doing that on and off actually for a couple of months and always the fastest speeds available to me were about 55 - 59mbps, that's what the providers always said I could expect to get on average. Just done some searches today though as I was about to actually switch and suddenly everyone, Plusnet, Sky, Vodafone, TT ect are all suddenly saying 45 - 49mbps?! What would have caused this sudden drop in what speeds they could provide for me?
I should say that this actually does tally with speed tests with my current BT internet I've done this morning because I was confused by this, which for some reason shows the speed struggle to get mych above 45 despite always being around 55 whenever I tried before. Does anyone know what's going on?

Just a guess, but maybe OFCOM or similar has told them to tell the truth & not mislead?

OpenReach have a database that periodically records the sync speed of your connection. The ISP recommendations are based off of this data if they use OpenReach infrastructure. If your connection is going through a noisy period with slower sync speeds, it will update to reflect this. You can see what OR thinks about your line using their line checker. Use your landline phone number for the best results:Estimated ranges are at the top, and "Observed Speeds" are lower down.
