Barclays account under review

The issue that I have experienced was: Please if anybody can advise.

last Monday i put a chq in to Barclays from my neighbor/friend who i care for daily as a fee and for her food in to my bank for Barclays to immediately put a RG21M code and blocked my account.

They have refused to speak with me about the problem and asked me to call the fraud department to explained my self where the payment for £3,500.00 had come from.

I told them the truth for them to say we will get back to you within 1 working day. This didn't happen,

this Tuesday they reviewed my response and sent a further letter asking for proof of the payment but

the letter didn't really state what they exactly need.

I have had to get my neighbor who is 91 to write as best she could a letter, along with her daughter and the contract

i typed up to agree her care and on the basis of payment which we both signed.

ive sent this off by recorded delivery but they still refuse to say what is happening apart from that they will release funds when they verify the chq payment within 2 working days.

I am so stressed out i cant use the bank account or the money

its been 2 weeks Monday and still nothing.

I have raised a complaint with Barclays but even they haven't responded any ideas if this would be enough proof?

It occurred on: 27/02/2023

This meant that NO ACCESS TO THE MONEY INN QUESTION ITS A WAGE!!!

VERY DOWN AS CANT GET ANYWHERE WITH THE ISSUE

GIVE ME MY FUNDS AND REOPEN MY ACCOUNT IVE DONE NOTHING WRONG!

I look forward to your prompt response on this matter. As recommended by Trading Standards, I would like to keep a complete record of my case, so please reply to this email address.

This seems to happen when Barclays suspect that you use your personal account for business purposes (that is against the T&C).

In effect, you are running a business?

If so you need a business a/c?

Or you are an employee of your neighbour and simply having your salary paid into your account?

I think the issue may well be with the transaction being seen as a Business transaction, however, the line would be a bit blurred if this type of engagement was a one off /ad-hoc one rather then a regular business (and the one being paid may otherwise have a regular employment with salary being paid on the same account), I think a personal account would be the only way to operate. Otherwise, anyone doing a loft clearance and selling stuff off once in a while May be seen as running a business.

Ir's a bit harsh freezing an account for this reason when a "don't do it" letter would suffice.

  • Many thanks to all.
I didn't think i would need a business account its only a one off payment so effectively its a one off. They have said nothing apart from they could not verifie the source of the Money and wanted proof which i have provided. Some body from Executives complaints called today to say they have sent a chasing email up.

I do have my wages paid into that account as i work part time as an undertaker , part time career , It was done on a private basis as she didn't want anybody else inn and we have known each other years along with the family. i charged her a set fee for 6 months to include her meals, i typed up an agreement for her security .
They still will not et me have  the funds! it's stressing me out as its my only bank with all my money inn.

Open a business account for the carer business. Then open a personal account with a different bank as a backup if this sort of thing happens. You've learnt the hard way never to keep all your eggs in one basket!
  • Thanks Danny. I'm just reading up on this type of thing its all new, I will do this now but I'm not registered as a business . After reading gov site do i now need to become self employed even if its just for the 6 Months?

All i have sent the bank is a letter from my neighbor, a letter from her daughter, and the contact confirming my visits to her and the cost it will be. What do you think will happen now ? I just cant work out what is taking them so long.

You are self employed, as a freelance carer, providing your services for this lady as laid out in the contract in return for a fee.

Hopefully they'll be satisfied with the letter and they'll unfreeze your account, but I don't know how long it will take.
